I love mashed potatoes as much as the next person, especially drowned in gravy, and could eat them most any time but to be honest, there are those times that I enjoy a twist on this basic dish. Here are my picks for my top 5 favorite mashed potato variations, check them out and give them a try, I am sure you will find something that you will enjoy and your family will love you for your creativeness.
Leftover Parmesan Mashed Potato Patties – This Skinnytaste recipe is so good you will find yourself making extra mashed potatoes on purpose just so you will be able to make it. A great way to mix up you potatoes, you won’t even remember that you are eating left over mashed. Simple to make with only 5 ingredients, you will have others thinking you slaved over a hot stove creating them.
Creamy Make Ahead Mashed Potatoes – This Taste of Home potato dish is so tasty with the added ingredients bacon and cheese among others. Your family will love these and just may want them as their go to potato dish. These will go with any meal and once assembled you have nothing to do but stick them in the oven until heated through and serve. I like to use whole milk or half and half to give them a creamier texture, a little extra cheese on top never hurt anyone either!
Garlic Mashed Potatoes with Spinach – This Food Network recipe made by Rachael Ray includes one of my favorite ingredients, that being spinach and garlic runs a close second. A really simple recipe to put together you just may never go back to basic mashed potatoes again. Not only do they look amazing they are a healthier choice with the inclusion of one of the best greens you can eat. If you love garlic as much as I do, don’t hesitate to throw in a couple extra cloves for good measure.
Cheesy Broccoli-Potato Mash – This Eating Well recipe has a good for you green vegetable in it, broccoli which is something I love any way I can cook it and the cheesier the better. Mixing it up with mashed potatoes is a natural for me because when I was young, I would mix a bit of my potatoes, main course and veggies together anyways, I enjoy a a bit of everything all in one bite. Give these a try, again, not a difficult recipe but something different to switch up the usual. I love the use of the fontina cheese, a bit different flavor and as in my previous comments, you can make them creamier by substituting whole milk or heavy cream.
Favorite Potatoes – This Green Thumb Farms recipe is super easy but what a great idea. They don’t give you exact measurements so for someone who does not cook it may prove to be somewhat challenging but otherwise it is a simple pinch here, dash there or even a splash of… you get the idea. Don’t let that stray you from trying these amazing looking potatoes that get a beautiful golden brown on top, I can hardly wait to dig in and I am only looking at the picture. These even include some whip cream, now you know these are going to be some creamy potatoes.
