Marshall Dane Talks, “Alcohol Abuse,” and His First CMA Festival

by yak max

In my line of work, I get to interview a lot of people and Marshall Dane was a joy to talk too. Super talented, sweet and sexy make for one killer combination and conversation. His single, “Alcohol Abuse,” is dropping to US radio this week. When Americans hear him, Marshall Dane is slated to become a household name in the US.

He is a Canadian country music artist who is making his way past the border to share his unique sound and style with us and not a moment too soon. In a day of cookie cutter artists, Marshall Dane is a gust of fresh air. I say gust because he is pure energy with unique authenticity. He does not fit into the forced industry formula and that makes him special and rare these days. This week is the World Premier for Marshall’s music video for, “Alcohol Abuse.” Be one of the first to see it at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLNjjOCX9bo

We got together to talk about his new single, “Alcohol Abuse,” his radio tour kicking off in the states in May and the fact that this June he will be signing autographs and performing at the CMA Festival held in Nashville, Tennessee yearly. This year the festival is being held June 5th, through June 8th, 2014. Marshall’s current CD has gotten lots of air play in Canada. It is entitled, “One of these Days.” His single, “Alcohol Abuse,” is on that CD. I asked him about his songwriting and future CD’s and this is what he said.

A I am currently writing material for my next CD. The idea of an EP style and making that your album is great. You just need to be able to sit back and see how your stuff is going to work. You want to make music people will love but also stay true to yourself.

Q How long have you been playing music?

A I started playing guitar when I was twelve and I started gigging when I was fifteen and I am only seventeen now. Just kidding.

[laughter]

A We all wish. No really, since I was fifteen years old I started performing in little cafes. I played my first gig for $35.00 and a piece of cheesecake. Now the last four years I have been working my songs at radio which being in this part of the business, it is such a brand new world. Yes, since I was fifteen.

Q So you are going to be here in May for a radio station tour at the beginning of June, June 5th at CMA Fest? You are playing the Legends show?

A Yes, I am looking forward to that. I have traveled to Nashville a bunch of times for songwriting but now it will be great to actually perform in Nashville. I haven’t done that yet. I have just always been there writing so it will be nice to have a showcase down there and play some tunes for my friends.

Q Wow. Is there anything else going on during that week? Are you going to be signing autographs?

A Yes, I am going to be signing autographs in a booth. I will be bringing down some 8 x 10’s and CD and maybe I will bring some tee shirts too.

With that we wrapped it up but not before I told him how much I liked his music and that I was looking forward to meeting him at the 2014 CMA Festival in Nashville, Tennessee. He is going to do a radio tour kicking off in May so be listening for him by checking out his website at www.MarshallDane.com and make sure to like him at Facebook.
