There has been so much talk about how legalizing marijuana would be such a terrible idea from people still living under rocks, they try telling us how this one herb being legalized is going to increase crime rates, it’s going to hurt children, and in one recent sensationalist piece aimed at stopping medicinal marijuana in Florida that it will lead to biker gangs coming in to control the product. (tbo) They claim that marijuana “addiction” rates have gone up everywhere that it’s made legal, except for the one big detractor to that argument being that marijuana isn’t an addictive drug, while it’s likely true that usage rates rise, it’s highly unlikely that the other number goes up as the opposition claims. (scientificamerican) The debate over whether marijuana should be legal or not has raged for a while and it’s started to turn a tide in recent years, even getting so much support that the federal government could very well be looking to finally stop raids on states with legal marijuana, that’s a massive step in the right direction in my opinion. (huffingtonpost) The problem is that all of their arguments about how horrible legalization would be for everyone involved are being shot down every day that Colorado still exists on this planet. (nytimes)
One of the biggest things showing on the positive side in Colorado are that taxes from marijuana sales are giving millions to schools in the state, turning something that was supposed to be such a negative into a positive, supporting education is a great idea and if selling recreational and medical marijuana helps that it’s a win/win for the state. (thedenverchannel) Another big win for the state is, contrary to popular belief, crime rates are going down in the state, such a shocker right? For all the talk about how marijuana was going to cripple the state, how crime would go through the roof and people would be killing each other to get their next fix, it sure seems that the herb has actually kept people mellow. (naturalsociety) When something is being pushed by political parties, both sides of the marijuana debate have ties to the top two political parties, it’s bound to devolve into scare tactics at some point, luckily for all the stories that are made up to strike fear in those who are undecided Colorado pulls up a new fact to combat the lies. (inquisitr) Come November I expect Florida to have legal medicinal marijuana, and within five years the entire southeast to have fully recreational legal marijuana. Sure it’s probably a long shot, but you gotta have faith.
