Men tend put on weight in the area of their stomach, especially as they get older. It’s a lot easier to work out your arms and legs, but your abs may still carry around pounds of fat. The way women easily gain weight on their hips and thighs, men’s stomachs act like fat magnets. It might not be the wrong exercises hiding that six-pack, but the wrong foods. By adding these four cheap foods to your diet you could easily shed abdominal weight without breaking the bank.
1. Lean meats help keep your metabolism going strong and burning off those extra pounds you’ve accumulated over the years. Meat is packed with amino acids, protein and B vitamins–everything you need to lose weight and build muscle. Add chicken breast, beef, pork, tuna and other lean proteins to every meal. Chicken and canned tuna are typically the cheapest, but lean cuts of pork and beef are often on sale.
2. Eggs are incredibly cheap, very versatile, and are excellent fat-blasters. They’re high in protein, and contain B12 and amino acids. No longer do we live in a day and age where eggs are considered dangerous to the diet. Enjoy eggs every day and any way you’d like: scrambled, poached, hardboiled, even fried in a little olive oil. Wrap them in a whole wheat tortilla, top them with salsa, stick them in pita bread, or slice over salads.
3. Beans are one of the cheapest foods around yet they’re one of the healthiest. Loaded with iron, protein and fiber, they have everything you need to lose abdominal weight. Don’t think beans have to be boring though; cook them from scratch or buy canned beans and add them to chili, salads, soups, or tacos. Make bean burgers or mash them for healthy refried beans.
4. Whole grains are another excellent way to help you lose belly fat while sticking to a shopping budget. Most breads, cereals and pastas are made from refined flour that’s been stripped of every ounce of healthy goodness. Instead, focus on products that can really boost your efforts to lose abdominal inches such as brown rice pasta or whole wheat pasta with added flax (Trader Joe’s sells a great line). Choose breakfast cereals like steel cut oats–toss a handful of raw oats into the blender with your morning smoothie. Bran flakes or Cheerios can be topped with fresh fruit, as well as your favorite milk or yogurt. When it comes to wheat breads, read the packages to be sure they’re truly whole grain breads and not just white bread colored with molasses.
It’s so easy to add these four foods to your daily diet and finally start seeing the results you’re looking for. You’ll feel healthier, lose weight waster, shed inches, and they’re easy on the budget.
