There would be no celebrities without the fans who love them.
And fans today have lots of ways of showing it, by either:
buying their
- EP downloads
- music CDs
- DVD releases
- pay-to-view movies
or paying for tickets to
- see them in concert
- up on the Big Screen or
- performing on the Broadway stage
True devotees can now “follow” their favorite stars on Twitter or Instagram, “friend” them on Facebook or even create their own celebrity fan pages, accounts or websites!
But how many can say they emulate them?
Sure there are many celebrity impersonators who do good impersonations of the King of Pop, but very few of them have the unique distinction of being a female Michael Jackson impersonator.
Well, New York native and ultimate MJ fan Moses Harper, is among this elite group.
So, what differentiates this phenomenal tribute artist from other imitators?
Besides showcasing her talent as a dancer, Harper says she also wants to use the platform as a way to engage children. When Harper performs as Jackson, you almost forget that she’s a girl. She is authentically outfitted down to the glittery white socks and glove. Everything else is purely instinctive.
Seeing her mesmerize viewers when performing as the iconic superstar is quite an experience, which I saw at the famed NYC Apollo Theater Amateur Night . Having twice won First Place, Harper is a Super Top Dog Apollo Showtime amateur competition alum.
Her embodiment of the legendary music video pioneer is total immersion; she captures every one of Jackson’s trademark physical nuances to perfection. You are totally riveted; watching her is the next best thing to the real thing.

In addition to wowing audiences with MJ’s signature moves, including his famous moonwalk, the performer uses her personal insight to help kids in NYC public schools in her role as a motivational speaker.
She says she shares the same desire as her idol in her efforts to strive to make a positive change in the lives of children. That deep admiration for the late pop icon is evident as Harper continues to keep his legacy alive through both performance and education.
After writing my first fan letter, I was elated to get an autographed 8×10 glossy and photocopied form letter in the mail. Times may have changed, but I believe that feeling of exhilaration you get from connecting with a beloved celeb is unmatched.

As modern social networking pathways to electronic contact with favored celebs still don’t compare, in this regard Harper has found an alternative method.
Imitation, after all, is the greatest form of flattery.
“It’s still difficult to get past Michael’s murder. When individuals who dedicate a lot of their energy to promoting peace and goodness on this planet, it seems especially tragic.” – Michael Jackson Tribute Artist Moses Harper via Facebook.
