Memorial Day is fast approaching, and many are wondering what to do with their families for the long weekend. If you live in central Arkansas, here are a few family-friendly options for spending your Memorial Day.
Riverfest. Riverfest, Arkansas’ largest summertime festival, will be held May 23-25, 2014. The event is family friendly and has a huge lineup of entertainment. A number of concerts will be held throughout the festival. The artist lineup includes: Chicago, The Wallflowers, The Fray, Ceelo Green, and Easton Corbin to name a few. Other activities offered are the Deltic Timber Kidzone, where the kids can play in the water and cool off. There will be rides and food vendors of all kinds, if festival food is something you love. Also, there is merchant’s row, where dozens of local artists and vendors sell their handmade goods. Riverfest is always a great experience for adults and children alike. Tickets are $35.00 for a full three-day pass, and can be purchased from the Riverfest website. Tickets can also be purchased at a discounted price of $20.00 at any local Walgreens store. Tickets will be sold at the door as well, the cost if you choose this option is $40.00.
North Little Rock Memorial Day Fireworks. Another Memorial Day activity not to be missed is the fantastic annual fireworks display. You can have a front row seat to all the action by purchasing a ticket to the Memorial Day Picnic and Fireworks Display. The picnic is sponsored by the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum and will be held aboard the USS Razorback submarine! Tickets are $25.00 and include dinner of hot dogs and hamburgers, water and soft drinks, and a seat aboard the USS Razorback for a spectacular view of the fireworks display. Heifer Hour at Heifer Village. If you’re looking for a kid-friendly activity that helps humanity, Heifer Hour is a fantastic opportunity to get your kids involved in one of Arkansas’ leading international charities, Heifer International. Saturday, May 24, visit Heifer Village at 11:00 a.m. at 1 World Avenue in Little Rock for crafts, games, and activities geared toward teaching children how to help the earth. School’s Out Party and Movie at Splash Zone. Splash Zone Water Park in Jacksonville is holding a party on Friday, May 24, to celebrate the end of school! Admission is $5.00 for a kids’ swim party from 6-9 p.m. After swimming, kids can enjoy a family-friendly movie in the park at sundown. More information can be found here.
