Spam is everywhere on the internet and if you aren’t familiar with the kinds of spam, it is definitely easy for you to fall victim to it. Take a look at the kinds of spam you can encounter on the internet to help protect yourself from it before it is too late.
Social Media Sites
One of the places you will encounter a ton of spam is on social media sites such as Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter. I’m sure you have seen these videos where you have to share them to view them and then fill out a survey; this is spam. You have probably also seen where Facebook will pay a dollar for every time a photo is shared, that is spam as well. So be on the lookout for stuff like that because it is simply spam and most of the time done in a very clever way.
SMS / Instant Messaging
You also need to be aware of the spam that is sent through SMS and instant messaging. These spammers will target you with things such as, “I got a new job, check it out,” or “This person beat me up, do you know them?”. If you don’t know the number or person sending the stuff, simply delete it. If it is someone you know, it is best to contact them and let them know that their account has been taken over by someone and that they need to change their password.
The most famous one is the spam found in emails. You are always hearing on the news how another person has fallen victim to a scam by email. The email scams are even more clever than the social media sites. Scammers will target people who post on places such as Craigslist. They will act interested and then try to scam you out of your money. They will also scam you by trying to get you to deposit money in your checking account and sending them some back. They will go as far as to say they are dying and need your help. Always be weary of people you don’t know when you receive this stuff in emails.
Spam is spread throughout the internet and can catch many people off guard. It is important that you stay alert and never give into anything like that. If it sounds too good to be true, then it is.
