Isaiah Thomas the Rising King

by yak max

Isaiah Thomas has demonstrated scoring abilities. Indeed, he is the third best scorer of his team with 20.4 points per game on 45% shooting from the floor. He is very active on the offensive end of the basketball court and gives 6.4 assists per game. Isaiah Thomas has established himself this season as one of the most dynamic point guard in the league

He is extremely fast, and is stronger than his 5’11 185 pounds body seems to be.

He enjoys the presence of the best center in the NBA in DeMarcus Cousins, so this should make his job easier. DeMarcus Cousins is the franchise player, but together they could be the one-two punch combination that could turn around the franchise only if given the correct environment.

The Kings needs to trade all the team except for their three best players to acquire defense capable players and veterans. DeMarcus Cousins blocks about a shot per game, but his defensive prowess are inconsistent. He had a few games when he played tough defense from start to finish. On the other hand he has games where his defensive efforts are not decisive. Therefore, the Kings need toughness, defense and energy to help those scorers express themselves knowing that they have enough defense games.

Isaiah Thomas after proving than he can start and be a significant scorer for his team needs to first improve his shot selection and second his on the court leadership skills.

Isaiah Thomas is a high volume point guard scorer now. His challenge is now find a way to decide take high percentage shots at the most appropriate times during games. Simultaneously, while he picks and chooses his spots, Isaiah Thomas has to make his teammates better. This phrase is very popular in basketball and perhaps appears to be a cliché, yet it has a very serious meaning behind it. As the point guard it is Isaiah Thomas’ responsibility to feed his dominating big man DeMarcus Cousins, to move the ball, to create and dictate the flow of the offense by getting every player involved offensively setting them up in the sweet spot to get them high percentage shots.

In essence, Isaiah Thomas has to feed players who cannot create their shots, dictate the tempo of the team in transition and on the half court offensive situations and score 18 to 20 points per game by only shooting 15 times. This is enormous responsability. And it is very hard to achieve, but to reach the next level and demonstrate greatness he has no choice but to attempt to develop this floor generalship skills to lead his team as one of its two Kings.
