In another place, their minds would have been filled with memories of a true love that had lasted for so long. It did seem like forever when she thought back to the days when their lives harbored such a free spirit. The long mornings gave way to the joys of a carefree life that was both took pleasure in living. Those were the days that she had so desperately sought to recreate in these the final months of her marriage.
He had felt trapped within a marriage so cold. She never seemed to take an interest in the carefree times that were meant to be shared. Most nights ended with a fight, a shouting match, anything that could free him from the prison that home had become. Any reason was good enough. He would drive around before settling at his normal spot. Always a patron of a world so seedy, he watched the girls saunter by, ordering another cold beer to wash away the dread of each day. He knew that their life had long been over but he held on for reasons unknown.
She watched his taillights disappear within the night; she knew where he would wind up. Night after night he had lain in the arms of another. An adventurous lifestyle is clearly what he sought. How could she possibly welcome him home so peacefully as if she was none the wiser? Surely, he must know that her heart cried out with each spoken word. She often felt the hate drip from his words. Another night cuddled by the fire, her sweet little kitty was all that she had. She sought a way to go about her life where nothing else would matter but her heart sought the peaceful times they once shared.
His nights were becoming harder with each day. He lay in the bed of another while begging for a reason to stay. He had sought the company of another for so long, he didn’t know if he could correct all the wrong. He sought an understanding to his actions; they tugged wildly at his heart. Was it even possible to watch her tears fall once again?
She offered him her soul and bared all that she had. She had hoped that in a better day they would find the lost, lonely and desperate words to make each other stay. Into the heavens she would often look, wondering, praying for just one more day.
Thank you Michelle Shields Sheppard for such a vast amount of words to which you offered. I hope you find the meaning in these words. What each had sought was within reach but without heart, never would they be. I always enjoy the ability to spin something out of very little. I enjoy the challenge of words of softly spoken.
