Interview: 19 Questions With Christina Lecuyer, Big Break Contestant and Golf Personality

by yak max

Christina Lecuyer was first introduced to the world on Big Break Ka’anapali and then again on Big Break Dominican Republic. Lecuyer may not have won either Big Break show but she turned her golf skills to good use as she contributes to radio including 103.7 The Buzz, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

1. You started playing golf a little bit later than most, what was your reason for getting in the game?

I’ve been around the game my whole life. My Dad is a golf professional so I have been around the game since diapers. I had no intrest in playing the game, I was more into hunting golf balls and cleaning clubs as a way to make some money. I took up the game at 18-years-old after I started working at a country club in their outside service area. I only worked with guys and the only way to fit in and hang out was to play the game after work with them. Needless to say it was the smartest thing I’ve ever done.

2. What is your favorite club in your bag and why?
I love the putter. I had to love it, if hitting greens is your weakness you better be able to get it up and down to have any chance! I have had only two putters since I took up the sport; the current one literally has worn out grooves.

3. You first joined the cast of Big Break Ka’anapali on the Golf Channel, what was the best part of that experience?

Was their one? Honestly, it wasn’t the best experience; however I learned a lot.

4. You returned to Big Break Dominican Republic , what is one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time in the Dominican Republic ?

The best part of Ka’anapali was it gave me Dominican Republic. I really enjoyed being on the Dominican Republic so much better. I was far more equipped for the “game” than I was the first time. The only thing that look back on was the approach shot on my second playoff hole with A-Rod. I chunked the shot and I should have backed away. That playoff was easily mine and had I won I probably would have won the MVP, but I know no regrets.

5. How do you get more people involved with the game of golf?

I think one of the best ways is working with women and children. I teach at the First Tee, I volunteer with summer kids fitness and golf camps, and I teach many lessons. It’s a game that you can play at any age.

6. We always like to talk fashion on the golf course, how do you define yours?

My style off the golf course is very classic. I like to think most things I wear are timeless, stylish, and “pretty”. On the golf course I tie classic shoes and usually a simple sleeveless shirt with a fun and exciting pair of Loudmouth golf short shorts. I have been wearing this companies products since before Big Break Dominican Republic.

7. What is the single best tip of golf advice you have ever received and who gave it to you?

I got this from Paul Azinger years ago when he was playing at my home club in Canada. He said no matter what’s happening in that day always learn something from those you are playing with, be a sponge. It’s stuck with me for some reason and I try to use it off the course as well.

8. You are now a radio contributor to 103.7 The Buzz in Little Rock, Arkansas; do you see yourself transitioning more into sports broadcasting after golf?

I love sports! My business card title is “Golf Appearance, teaching, and playing professional”, but that hardly encompasses everything. The buzz is so much more than just golf, I need to know everything. I have always loved professional sports, but after living here in Arkansas for the past 10 years I know the only thing that matters locally is Razorback football and SEC! I have been so blessed to have the local support here in Arkansas as well as from those back home in Canada. I have no idea what my future holds, but I do know I rarely say no to any work opportunities and I will always try something new.

9. How would your family describe you in three words?

Hard working, competitive, thoughtful

10. If you were in charge of picking the menu at The Masters next year for the Champions Dinner what would you serve?

Sides and dessert, I’m so not a food person. I am picky, but I do try and pick healthier options, but I rarely say no to dessert and fruit.

11. Let’s talk workouts, what do you do to stay in shape on and off the golf course?

I love to workout. It keeps me in a good place mentally and physically. I work with a trainer three times a week when I am home and I try to fit in some cardio at least five times week. I was would like to say I also fit in a yoga session as well, but I have slacked on that lately. I rarely sit down and I love being active. I just don’t feel right if I have missed the gym for more than three days in a row. It keeps me in a good place and I feel a lot less guilty eating those desserts.

12. If we were to look at your top three songs played on your iPod, what would they be?

Probably something country, old school like U2 or my favorite Rod Stewart. I know, but always loved him.

13. How do you want to be remembered?

Hard working, a true friend, caring, passionate, successful

14. Do you think golfing with your significant other can be a good or bad idea and why?

I love golfing with my husband and I can honestly say he enjoys it as well. For those who are wondering, Yes, I beat him and he doesn’t mind. It’s my part of my job and I’m supposed to. I don’t beat him at his job, so we have an understanding.

I think it’s awesome for women to get out on the course with their significant others, but I also know they want their guy time as well. Just needs to be a balance.

15. Who is your favorite current PGA Tour player right now and why?

I’ve been friends with Ken Duke a while and Bryce Molder is a local guy, so it’s always nice to see the play well. I also cheer for a few of my brothers buddies like Graham Delaet and James Love. If your looking for big names I like Jason Day, Ian Poulter, Graham McDowell, and Darren Clarke.

16. If we raided your fridge right now, what would we find?

Lots of liquid. Soda, energy drinks, raw juices, breakfast drinks, almond milk, ice tea, beer, skinny girl margarita, wines, vodka, bottled water, Gatorade … the list goes on. The other staples are fruit, vegetables, pickles, and lots and lots of condiments. Anything I just buy as I need it. We love to cook, but with our crazy busy lifestyles it doesn’t happen as much as I would like.

17. What is next for you on and off the golf course?

I am home for another week doing radio, golf lessons, and hopefully playing a little golf. I then leave for 17 days headed to Canada where I will be working seven corporate and charity golf tournaments while hopefully squeezing in a little family/friends time.

18. For all the readers, we have to ask are you single, dating or locked down?

I am happily married to the only man on the planet who could put up with me and love me just as much!

19. What is your idea of the perfect date?

I call it quality time and it doesn’t really matter what we are doing as long as we are having fun and are together. Most of the time it requires activity, food, and sports.
