No matter what the temperature of the water is, no one can relax and have fun in a swimming pool that isn’t clean. The Intex inflatable pools are so small that standard chemicals and testing strips can be an unnecessarily expensive burden, especially if you are using private well water that you already knew was clean before you pumped it into your swimming pool and you only have a small family that uses it infrequently.
These cleaning tips have worked for my family time after time and ensured that we have clean water in our Intex inflatable swimming pool everyday.
Solution: Screen Cleaner. Why go to the store and pay $15 for a pool cleaning skimmer when there are much cheaper homemade alternatives available? A small section of fabric screening attached to a stiff wire circle at the end of a long stick or a square constructed of PVC pipes and hooked on with a few zip ties will do the trick. A cheap fishing net from the dollar store (as long as the mesh is closely stitched) also does a great job at cleaning large debris from the water’s surface. Stretching pantyhose or other elastic fabric will work to skim off even fine strands of pollen from the water.
Solution: Chlorine Tablets and Homemade Dispenser. Chlorine tablets do a great job at keeping the swimming pool water clean. A 3-inch chlorine tablet costs approximately $3 and works cleaning and sanitizing without being overpowering in a three-foot inflatable Intex swimming pool for right around two weeks when suspended in the pool water.
Note: It is important to have the tablets suspended in the water instead of just throwing them in. We made this mistake at first and found that a large spot on the bottom of the Intex swimming pool floor’s grid pattern had been bleached off by morning.
Again, save yourself $15 by constructing your own homemade chlorine dispenser with a bit of thick Styrofoam and a square of fabric netting. Cut a piece of netting approximately 8 inches square. Hollow out an approximately 12-inch section of Styrofoam (the kind that is used to package large breakables like televisions or that is used as housing insulation) just enough to allow the 3-inch chlorine tablet to get through. Push the netting inside the hole in the Styrofoam and staple it if necessary to secure it in place.
Note: Keep it loose enough so that when you place the chlorine tablet inside it stays suspended inside the water and not above it.
Solution: Extended Vacuum Hose & Handle. There is some cleaning of the Intex inflatable pools that is best accomplished with an improvised pool vacuum, we’ve found. By attaching a long section (or multiple smaller sections) of vacuum hose with a soft bristle end and taping it to a long handle, you can easily vacuum debris from the bottom of the swimming pool while standing outside of it.
Note: The filter that comes with the Intex inflatable pools is small and must be pulled out and cleaned regularly to continue to work properly and cleaning out the pool effectively.
