So there’s a guy and a girl out there somewhere in the US who have undergone plastic surgery procedures to make themselves look like Barbie and Ken dolls respectively. Ken Doll now comes out to say that after meeting Barbie, he didn’t “… get why people think she’s so interesting.” The same could be said about this guy, but that’s beside the point. Looking at them made me think about all the things people do to mutilate their bodies for the sake of attention. I mean no offense against people who tattoo themselves or pierce every part of their bodies, but I don’t understand why someone would themselves through that kind of transformation. I’m sure the money spent on all the surgeries these two people had to look like dolls could have gone to something more productive, like maybe an education.
Did the thought ever once cross their minds what they might look like ten or even twenty years from now? The human body ages. No amount of plastic surgery can stop it. Pretty soon, these people are going to look like sagging pieces of skin and plastic. Can you imagine what their kids are going to say? How would you even begin to explain something like your Dad underwent surgery to look like a doll to a kid? You can’t. The decisions these people are making are affecting more than just themselves. To not care about it really makes me question what service, if any, they think they are providing to the world.
