Hulu and Netflix have become a popular alternative to subscribing to cable or satellite television. Both rely on an internet connection and have their own pros and cons.
Overview of Hulu
Pricing: Hulu charges 7.99 a month for unlimited access to all their content and unlimited use of it. This is very cheap compared to cable providers and satellite dish companies.
Content: Hulu offers many current shows just one day after its original air-date. In this regard it is very similar to having cable television with the inconvenience of waiting an extra day to view your favorite programs.
Commercials: Hulu has a lot of commercials whether you are viewing for free or pay for a subscription. Many people think if they buy the subscription they will have less commercials and it simply isn’t the case. The commercials are also repetitive and you find yourself watching the same few over and over again.
Genres: Hulu features many popular choices in TV and movies, but doesn’t have as many break downs in genres as Netflix.
Overview of Netflix
Pricing: Netflix charges 7.99 a month also with unlimited access to all their content and unlimited viewing. Again, this is a great price in comparison to cable and satellite, but compared to Hulu it is the same price.
Content: Netflix offers a few current shows, but the episodes tend to take longer than Hulu to come out and there are only a handful to chose from. On the other hand, Netflix does offer many shows after the shows season is complete and also has a vast collection of shows from all eras. Netflix has a wide variety of movies and does come out with some current movies, but not as many as Hulu.
Commercials: One of the best things about Netflix is that it’s commercial free! You won’t be subjected to any commercial interruptions when watching any of Netflix’s movies or shows.
Genres: Netflix offers many genres and subcategories of genres to find the perfect show for you. Netflix’s service also suggests content for you based on your user profile and things you have watched in the past. One genre that Netflix has is a faith and spirituality section which Hulu lacks.
Overall, both services have their own pro’s and con’s. Honestly, the price for each is so low you could subscribe to both and still pay less than cable and satellite!
