In previous interviews, Hugh Jackman said that “Wolverine 3” would likely be the final time he plays the X-Men character. However, in a recent interview with the Associated Press, Jackman said that he might have overstated the chances he was leaving the franchise. Jackman, who stars in the upcoming “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” will have played Wolverine seven times following that movie. He then will star in “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “Wolverine 3” after that, putting him at nine appearances as the popular mutant.
While he said there was a 99.9 percent chance that his ninth appearance would be the last, he said that he is re-energized after seeing “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which saw original director Bryan Singer return to the franchise. He said that, as long as things remained fresh and exciting and fans would still have him, he would likely return for more. With Jackman becoming one of the longest tenured actors to play one character, here is a look at some of the major names he is about to pass.
Leonard Nimoy, Spock
Lenoard Nimoy started out his “Star Trek” career on the popular television show before appearing in “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” in 1979. His biggest moment came in “Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan” when he actually died to save his friends. However, dying in the second movie didn’t stop him, as he returned in the third movie and went on to appear in a total of eight films, his most recent appearances coming in J.J. Abrams’ rebooted “Star Trek” movies, now known as Spock Prime.
Robert Englund, Freddy Krueger
In many horror movies, the evil monsters can be recast without people knowing. Eight different people have played Michael Myers and nine different people played Jason Voorhees. However, until the recent reboot of the franchise, there has been only one Freddy Krueger. Robert Englund starred as the child murderer turned nightmare monster in eight different movies. This included seven in the original series and once in the mash-up movie “Freddy vs. Jason.”
Tyler Perry, Madea
Tyler Perry is almost an institution by himself. He has made a large number of successful films and television shows independently and has become a very powerful producer as a result. He also stars in most of his movies, including making special appearances as the powerful and aggressive Madea, a woman who towers over almost everyone else in the films. Perry has put on the costume to play Madea eight times in film, and even more on television. The character’s first appearance on the big screen came in 2005 with “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” and most recently appeared in 2013 in “A Madea Christmas.”
