Australian actor Hugh Jackman is in contract negotiations with Warner Bros. Pictures to star in a new live-action version of Peter Pan. Greg Silverman, President of Creative Development and Worldwide Productions for Warner Bros, expressed his enthusiasm on this new development by stating, “Hugh Jackman always delivers indelible performances that resonate with audiences. We know he will create a character a Blackbeard who will be a powerful presence in this original Peter Pan adventure.”
The creative team behind this film is director Joe Wright – Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, and more recently Anna Karenina, which was nominated for four Oscars back in 2013 and won for Best Costume Design – and actor/writer Jason Fuchs – Ice Age: Continental Drift. They are set to entertain audiences with a whole new twist on J.M. Barrie’s tale. All that has been released, in terms of terms of the story’s premise, is that Pan is brought to Neverland as a young orphan to lead a revolt against pirates. The biggest twist that has been revealed is that Pan and Hook are brothers facing off against Blackbeard in the beginning, then, of course, to eventually become enemies.
Javier Bardem – Skyfall – was originally approached by Warner Bros. Studios to play the role of Blackbeard, but after Bardem turned it down, the role was then immediately offered to Jackman. He has worked hard to avoid being typcasted – he has played Wolverine seven times on the big screen – and liking to show off his acting versatility – which can be seen in such films as Les Miserables and Rise of the Guardians – Jackman gladly accepted. Another possible big name casting choice is Ryan Gosling as Hook. If Gosling is casted, audiences may witness the faces of a new franchise. As for the rest of the cast, nobody else has been chosen, but on the production wire it has been heard that they are looking for an actress in her 20s to play Tiger Lily.
Hugh Jackman is currently sporting a mullet and filming a new sci-fi film entitled Chappie, set to be released spring 2015. His latest films to have hit the box office were Wolverine, which was released summer 2013, and Prisoners, which was released this past fall. His next film to hit the big screen will be X-Men: Days of Future Past, due to be released Memorial Day. Jackman is most assuredly kept busy by Hollywood directors.
The new, untitled Peter Pan movie is scheduled for a big screen release date of summer 2015.
