One minute you’re fine and then next the room is spinning. Dizziness is no fun. This article covers some common reasons for dizziness. If your dizziness is concerning speak to your doctor.
Step 1: If dizziness is a problem for you it’s a good idea to avoid standing up too fast. Sometimes when we stand up too fast it can cause dizziness or the feeling of being light headed. This is not a physical ailment, it’s just one of those things. Slow it down a little and you may find that the dizziness stops.
Step 2: Make sure you are hydrated. Dehydration can sometimes cause dizziness. Drink at least eight six ounce glasses of water per day to keep your body well hydrated. Dehydration can occur on very hot days, especially when you are out in the sun. If your dizziness is severe and is you suspect it may be caused from dehydration it may good a good idea to go to your local emergency room. There they will give you IV fluids to re-hydrate you.
Step 3: High or low blood sugar can also cause dizziness. If you are feeling dizzy and are either hypo-glaucemic or hyper-glaucemic your blood sugar may be to blame for your dizzy spells. Test your blood sugar regularly and stick to a proper diet to prevent the dizziness. You should also make an appointment with your doctor. Eating apples will help to regularize blood sugar. If your blood sugar is low an apple will help to bring it up. If your blood sugar is high an apple will help to bring it down.
Step 4: Check the labels of any medications you may be taking and read them carefully. A common side effect of both prescription and non-prescription medications is dizziness. Most medications will have a warning on them stating that they may cause you to become dizzy. If yours does, and the dizziness is bothersome talk to your doctor about switching medications. If your dizziness is caused from an over the counter medication you should stop taking it.
Step 5: Get something to eat. Even if you do not have any medical conditions related to blood sugar. When a person goes for several hours without eating it can and will cause dizziness. Take some time to sit down and eat a meal, or to at least have a healthy snack. Within a half an hour after getting something to eat you may find that your dizziness is completely gone. Be sure to start each day with a healthy, balanced breakfast. Never skip lunch or dinner. Eat small snacks in between meals.
