Summer is right around the corner, and with it there’s always lots of parties and family gatherings. Hiking is also a great way to spend some time during the summer. So why not plan on a summer hiking party. A hiking party can be a lot of fun and is a great way to get some fresh air and a lot of exercise. Below are a few tips and suggestions on how you can get started with planning your summer hiking party.
Pick the right place
Start by choosing the right location. If you and your friends are not used to hiking you will want to pick a trail that is not going to be too difficult. Look for a trail that you will actually enjoy hiking. Perhaps a place that has nice scenery, and even a place where you can stop and have a picnic.
Invite the right people
When you are planning your hiking party try to invite those who love the outdoors. There is nothing worse than having people on a hike who complain the entire time. Friends who love nature and love a challenge will enjoy a hiking party.
Plan lunch in advance
If you are going to be heading on a hike you will want to make sure that you pack a lunch that is healthy, and will help recharge the group. It helps if you make up a list of lunch items for everyone to bring. For example you can have one person bring just the drinks, and another person bring the sandwiches. Or you can have each individual bring their own lunch items, and you can just pack a few extra items. Planning out the menu well in advance helps to keep the party enjoyable. Or you can arrange a hike that will lead your guests to the picnic area, where you will already have lunch set up. Then you can all hike back to the cars together. Just make sure that the lunch you have set up includes disposable items.
Bring extra bug spray
Be sure to pack the extra bug spray, and make sure that everyone is completely sprayed down before starting on the hike. The hike will not be enjoyable if everyone is getting bit along the way. Be sure to remind your guests to bring along their snacks.
Pack a first aid kit
A first aid kit is a must for this type of party. Remember you will be hiking so you want to make sure that you have the right items if needed by any of those you have invited. I would recommend that you have each person bring their own first aid kit.
One way to make this seem more like a party instead of just a hike is to pack some marshmallow roasting packs. This way you can hand them out sort of like party favors. It will be great for when you finish your hike to sit and roast some marshmallows with your friends and make some marshmallow sandwiches.
