The regular swimming pools are getting to be old fashioned. Nowadays many families like to do something a bit different. Making your swimming pool look more like a pond is really a great way to create a special oasis right in your own backyard. Especially if you love being outdoors, and want to have a forest like place to relax. Below are a few ideas to help you get started with turning your in-ground swimming pool into a natural swimming pool.
Change the look of your swimming pool
To get started you will have to change the outside border of your swimming pool. It will need to be little lower in order to be flush with the rest of the yard. This just means changing the edge of the pool. You can even add some bushes to the outside edge to make it have a more natural look. Perhaps adding some stones to the edges. I would choose to have some lemon grass bushes around the pool to help keep the mosquitoes away from the area.
Natural Filter system
What really makes the swimming pool into a pond is change the water into something a bit more natural. You will need to add a shallow edge to your pool which will allow you place some plants into the water. The plants are actually what you will use to naturally filter the water in the pool. Of course you can’t just use any type of plant for this part. You will need to do your research on which plants to use and how to set it up properly. Natural swimming pools has a website that offers some great ideas on converting your swimming area to a natural pond.
Fix the area to match
Next you will want to change the landscape around the yard to match the inside of the pool. For example if you have a yard that has no tress or potted plants to it, add some. Large planted pots will look great in any yard, placed in the proper place, not just around the pool but around the yard. You can also add a fountain near the pool and the price does not have to be extreme. If you shop during the sales you can find great fountains that are small, simple, and best of all affordable.
Add a natural deck
You can also surround the pool with a natural deck made of wood. This will really add a special touch to the outside of the pool area, and will be a great diving platform if the pool is deep enough. You can put the deck in yourself or you can have a professional do it if you are not sure how.
Rock style seating
Last but certainly not least is to add some unique seating to the yard. I have seen some great looking artificial rocks that can be used as seating. They look real, but are easy to move around and use for your guests to sit on when they are getting in and out of the pool. It may also be best to place the rocks under a tree so that they don’t get too warm. This is especially important if you use real rocks.
