If you’re reading this article you might be where I was several years ago – searching for ways to generate income from the comfort of your couch. Well, I’m here to tell you, you can make money from home. But, it’s harder than any job you’ve worked in. Matter fact, it’s the hardest job you’ll ever have.
How many times have you read about people making loads of money selling their own products and monetizing their blogs? Seems as though the Internet is crawling with people earning a full-time check online. The reality is very few make a full-time income online.
As a new blogger, you’ll scour the web in search of the blogging holy grail, where seasoned bloggers provide their tradesecrets to unlimited earnings potential.
Unfortunately, you’ll find theories about this and that, what works for some may not work for all, etc. You’ll hear Google Adsense is a terrible business model if not a business model at all. Truth be told, some money is better than no money, and if you happen to stick around for several years blogging, sooner or later, you’ll make money. As long as you continue learning.
I started several blogs (Father’s Love Letter, Mother Poems Sympathy Poems, Happy Birthday Notes, Inspirational Sayings, etc) through various publishing platforms. I started with no HTML or coding knowledge and with one site.
In time, and after reading hordes of information about coding, CSS and HTML, SEO and other pertinent Internet education, I earned my first check from Google.
Let me repeat, I knew absolutely nothing about computers, coding or anything related to the computer field. So if I can do it you can too.
It was trial and error and hands-on experience that helped me earn my first Google Adsense check.
What Publishing Platform I Started With First?
I started blogging on Blogger because my brother told me about it. It was easy. I added and rearranged the layout to fit my liking. I also downloaded free theme templates. It took a few months to realize I could earn money on Adsense as I stumbled on a the “earnings” section in the blogger dashboard.
After reading the small print, I thought, “Yeah right.” But I signed up anyway because it was free and I had nothing to lose.
As I mentioned earlier, I didn’t make the type of money other bloggers were reportedly making. I made $0.01 one day, another $0.01 two days later and so on. It was pitiful so I stopped blogging.
I stopped blogging but continued reading about blogging and making money online. I had too, I needed passive income to pay the bills.
It took more than two years, several blog ideas, domain name purchases and hosting sites with different providers, to finally reel in enough money to reach the $100 payout threshold set by Google Adsense.
Which Niches Make Me Money?
I am a poet. I enjoy writing about life, dreaming, inspiration and motivation, so I narrowed down my niche to poetry and quotes. I learned about search engine optimization and began optimizing for keywords in my niche. I also commented on blogs and added a link back to my site, as well as created articles and published them on high PR sites. It took several months to see the results of my efforts.
Boy did they take affect. 7 months after creating Sympathy Poems, I received my first Adsense check from Google in the amount of $130.50. It was surreal and a nice feeling knowing my hard work paid off.
I didn’t stop there. I took the knowledge gained from that site and created Father’s Love Letter, Mother Poems, A Wedding Poem, Happy Birthday Notes and School Secrets. All with the exception of the last site, School Secrets, are poetry sites.
So, if anyone tells you poetry doesn’t pay, I’m here to tell it does. You just need to find a niche and optimize with keywords and key phrases for the poetry you’re writing.
How to Optimize a Website Design and Ad Placement?
If you’re a Poet and have multitudes of topics, break out each topic into its own site and optimize for the words associated with that topic.
Use free tools such as the Google Keyword Planner and Ubbersuggest to create my list of keywords.
Mix up the way you publish by creating static pages with multiples poems, as well as traditonal blog posts. Regardless of the format, include keywords in the title, subtitle, image and body associated with the poem topic.
It may take years to make money from blogging Do I expect to quit my day job now that I earned a few dollars from Google Adsense? Nope. But, my goal is to duplicate my efforts with other sites in hopes of creating a stream of passive income.
Create Your Own Products to Earn More
Blogging is an excellent platform to gain a loyal following of people to sell your own your products.
It makes sense, create and sell what you’re doing, not what others are doing.
A few adsense dollars is no match for sales of a product you’re selling.
I rather sell 5-10 copies of my online classes book each month than a earn few cents off of someone else’s product.
You can make money online monetizing a blog or site, you really can. I did. But it takes patience and real passion for the topic you’re writing about.
What about you, receive a check from Adsense lately? How long did it take?
