Maybe your anniversary is coming up. Maybe it’s going to be your sweetheart’s birthday soon, or maybe you just want to turn an ordinary morning extraordinary! Here’s a gay pride twist on breakfast in bed. Surprise your special someone with a delicious stack of rainbow pancakes.
Okay, so here’s how to do it. Go to the store a few days before you plan to make the pancakes to gather your ingredients so that you’ll have everything you need when the time is right. Get an assorted box of food coloring. It should contain red, green, yellow and blue. You should be able to purchase the food coloring for less than two dollars. Then, grab a couple boxes of your favorite pancake mix. The total cost of this surprise breakfast should be less than ten dollars. (If you don’t have oil, butter and syrup at home you may want to grab some.)
Wait until the time is right. Maybe it’ll be on a special day, or just a day your love has off from work. Let your honey sleep in. Quietly go to the kitchen and gather your supplies. You will need the assorted food coloring, the pancake mix, oil, a measuring cup, a large bowl and a medium sized skillet or frying pan.
Plan on making four pancakes of each of the following colors: purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red. Each color will be a separate batch.
Start with purple. Prepare the pancake mix according to the directions. Add a few drops of red food coloring and stir the batter well. Add a few drops of blue and it will become purple. Add some oil to pan to prevent the pancakes from sticking. Cook one pancake at a time, allowing the pancake to cook halfway through before flipping. Place two purple pancakes on one plate and two on another plate. Spread a touch of butter of each top pancake and drizzle just a little syrup.
Wash the bowl and prepare another batch of pancake mix. Add just a few drops of blue food coloring. Make four blue pancakes. Place two on each plate on top of the purple ones. Add a little butter and a little more syrup. Wash the bowl again. Prepare more pancake mix. Add green food coloring. Make the green pancakes. Wash the bowl again. Make the yellow pancakes. For the orange pancakes add a few drops of yellow and a couple drops of red. Finish the stack off with the red pancakes. Add a pat of butter to the top and let a generous amount of syrup drizzles down the sides of each stack.
Quickly clean up the kitchen and place the two plates on a serving tray. Gently wake up your special someone and present the beautiful tasty surprise. The second plate is for you of course. Enjoy breakfast in bed together then have a wonderful day.
