Trust is something that can take a long time to build and a split second to destroy. It’s like hope, strong yet fragile. When it comes to friendships and relationships, trust is the most important thing you have between you and it’s best not to betray that trust. If you’re someone who has a shaky past when it comes to maintaining trust and don’t want to do a repeat, here are a few things to remember, things that everybody should already know.
Some people, believe it or not, have trouble being honest with others, and as someone who wants to focus on maintaining trust no matter what the relationship is like, it’s always important to be honest. Honesty is the foundation that can build strong friendships, relationships, and character. If you don’t have honesty, than you have nothing. Constantly lieing about this and that is a definitely recipe for betrayal, and with most people, there’s no way around betrayal. Some believe that it can’t be forgiven. If you’re lucky enough to have someone or people in your life that is willing to give you another chance when you’ve done something wrong, you’ll never go wrong with honesty. When you lie, you make everyone involved question everything that you say. Why go through the trouble of having everyone wonder if you’re being sincere or not. Stick with honesty. Don’t mislead.
Loyalty is another thing that can help you maintain trust. When you’re loyal to those you care for and who care for you, it builds another layer of a strong foundation that will give you a strong friendship or relationship. Being loyal doesn’t have to mean not staying to true to who you are and your beliefs, and give up your values. It simply means that in no way, shape, or form, you’ll end up betraying someone or besmirching someone’s character. You’ll be there for them and stick up for them. If you’re dealing with someone who is unhealthy for you to be around, then tighten your circle and cut them out of your life. For those who truly belong in your life, being loyal to them and staying by their side through thick and thin will aide you in maintaining trust.
Communication is always important and it goes hand in hand with honesty. When you’re open with the ones you love and you’re communicating with them, it balances out the honesty aspect. With relationships especially, it’s never good to be closed off and push someone you love away, even when you’re going through a hard time. Communicate what you’re feeling, even if you’re not doing it verbally. Withdrawing is the last thing you should do because it breaks down each layer of foundation that you’ve built up. Sometimes when the foundation is gone, the relationship goes with it. So always communicate. Don’t keep secrets either. That’s a form of betrayal. If you want to maintain trust, keep everything that can break that trust out of your mind.
