Growing up I wanted to be a psychiatrist, I even took the time to study for a few years before I had my first child then being a mom took over. Having just that small amount of information that I learned has helped me to help many people in my life. Mostly with determining if they are depressed and need to see a doctor. With the world moving as fast as it does right now, there is no wonder so many people are facing depression and have no clue what is wrong with them. We all see the commercials on the television where there is a person that looks so sad and hurts all over but there are other more subtle signs of depression that you may not know about.
First let’s look at the basic symptoms of depression. It is reported that people may cry without knowing why, they don’t take part in the things that they used to enjoy, or they may not want to be around their friends anymore. Pain is another symptom of depression, it is a pain that has no cause that can be found by doctors. Meaning there is no physical reason for the pain. It is also the kind of pain that hurts all over or randomly hurts in different places. So for instance, one day it may be your back causing you problems and the next it is your legs. This is a big sign of depression. You may also have a hard time dealing with stress. This one can affect your life huge ways. Dealing with stress is a big part of our lives, it is a part of everything we do. If you are depressed, when you face even the smallest amount of stress you may lose control.
Now for the lesser known symptoms of depression. Low self-confidence is a symptom of depression, it is not caused from not being good enough, and it is simply a symptom that needs to be treated. Weight gain or loss that happens very quickly may also be another symptom. Eating disorders such as bulimia can be caused from depression. This is because the person suffering from depression feels as if they cannot control anything in their lives and there for they will control the food that they take in, but they cannot even do that because of the depression they tend to overeat therefore causing themselves to purge it. The final lesser known symptom of depression is simply not feeling like yourself any more, feeling as if you have lost who you are and you will never be able to get back there.
Depression is not new to any of us and most of us will suffer with it during some part of our lives. Dealing with depression on the other hand is new to each person who suffers from it, we feel we are all different and have to learn through our own experiences which to a point is true. If you feel like you are suffering from depression, find someone to talk to, herbal supplements work great also, and if you feel like you are in a hole you will never be able to pull yourself out of, please see a doctor.
