Have you ever seen an item for sale on the internet and you thought it has to be to good to be true? So then you buy it and receive nothing in return. Or you receive a package and it is nothing but a prank. Well, you are not alone. In this article, I am going to show you how to distinguish between a real website and a scam website.
When I was young, dumb, naive, and still living with my mother; I had an infatuation with jewelry. I could not afford real diamonds, so I had to turn to cubic zirconium jewelry. One of my favorite rappers was Lil Boosie, and I simply adored his jewelry. But one piece that really stuck out to me was his enormous cuff diamond bracelet. I know, in real diamonds it would be about $100,000. But I have been searching the internet for other options. A replica of this same bracelet on most of the sites were about $500. But I managed to find a website where they were selling this same replica bracelet for $70! I said to myself wow, this is a good deal.
The website was called hiphopjewelrykings.com. They seemed to be a legitimate business. They had a phone number, an address and all. They had all of the jewelry I wanted for major discounted prices. So I said it couldn’t hurt anything to try a rather new jewelry website. So then I proceeded to buy it. They said the estimated time I would receive my package would be 10 business days for standard usps shipping.
So then a month passes and I am wondering why I have not received my package. I then call the number posted on their website. It rang, but it kept going to voicemail. I thought I had just called at the wrong time so I called on a Monday around noon and received the same message. I knew something was wrong. When I purchased it I used a green dot Walmart prepaid card. I called Walmart and asked their opinion on the situation. They said I seem to have ran into a scam site. They said they were going to try their best to get my money back. It took about 4 months to receive my money back.
So as I still proceed to internet shop I have found out a couple of things to determine whether if it is a good business or not. For one they will be a picture on the website saying BBB certified. Otherwise known as the Better Business Bureau. Some have even had the never to post a fake picture on their site to allude you. If you can not click on the link and it takes you to the BBB website; I would not trust it. Another way that is preferably easy is using the website called scamadvisor.com. On this website you can copy and paste the URL in their search bar and it will tell you whether or not if it is a trusted website or not. It will also tell you the reason why it is not a trusted website. Use these tools to your advantage. I hope this article helps the next time you go internet shopping. And remember be safe.
