I have always taken care of my teeth. I brushed, flossed, and used mouthwash twice a day. I was not a big eater of sweets, but I did love my carbohydrates, which can wreak havoc on your teeth as well. I had not had cavities in several years, and then during my pregnancy and while breastfeeding my teeth began to decay. I had more cavities in my first post-partum dental visit than I had in all my dental visits combined. I had most of the serious cavities filled, but I decided I would try to heal the smaller ones myself. My teeth were extremely sensitive, even after the fillings, and I was hoping that I could change that as well.
I researched different ways to heal cavities and decrease tooth sensitivity. I found the book Cure Tooth Decay by Ramiel Nagel helpful, but I did not feel comfortable with several of the methods such as consuming raw milk and raw cheese. I compiled a list of methods I wanted to try and 6 months later I had no cavities at my dental visit and my teeth have no sensitivity to cold.
Grass-Fed Products. I began eating 100% grass-fed beef (local farmers), grass-fed cheese (Kerrygold brand), and occasionally 100% grass-fed milk (Organic Valley Grassmilk). I did make a few bone broths with the bones and bone marrow of 100% grass-fed animals. The book Cure Tooth Decay pushed for the raw milk; however, to me the risks of consuming raw milk were too great for me to attempt. I felt that the 100% grass-fed products, which were recommended in the book in regards to meats, would be the best alternative.
Supplements. Ramiel Nagel’s book also recommended taking a Cod Liver Oil and Butter Oil supplement put out by the company Green Pastures. The supplements were pricy, about $40-$50 a bottle, but I decided that if it worked it would be worth it. At first I purchased the Cod Liver Oil/Butter Oil blend. It was not in a pill form, but more of a gel that you would take with a spoon. I notice no real difference with that. However, I then purchased the Cod Liver Oil and Butter Oil pills that were combined into one. When products are combined in a blended pill or gel, I find that they are less potent. About three weeks after I began taking one Cod Liver Oil pill and one Butter Liver Oil pill each day, my sensitivity in my teeth disappeared. I could eat something as cold as ice cream and no longer fall to the floor in pain from the sensitive teeth.
Oil Pulling. I am not sure if the oil pulling with coconut oil did much for me; however, I did oil pull for fifteen minutes twice a day for three months. I had read stories that people felt immediate changes in their mouth and that they felt they could give up brushing their teeth because oil pulling was better. My mouth never felt that clean and refreshed from the organic coconut oil I stopped after a few months. I started using the organic coconut oil when cooking instead, thus consuming the healthy fats that could help your body absorb more nutrients.
Overall, the fact that I had no cavities, that my dentist commented on how good my gums looked, and that my once sensitive teeth are now fine leads me to believe that others should try to heal their own cavities. Healing your teeth can be done.
