When a friend is not feeling well, or when they are just going through a lot it is always nice to take over a meal. This is one less thing that they have to worry about, especially if they are not feeling well. Over the years I have learned how to add little special touches to make the recipient feel even more special. Below are some ideas that may prove to be helpful.
Fancy but disposable
Start by using disposable containers that have a bit of a fancy flair to it. You can easily find containers like these at most local dollar stores. These containers are sturdy and really do look great, which will make the individual feel even more special. You will also want to make sure that your containers are microwave safe. This way if the person has to re-heat the items they will have no problem doing so. You will want to have containers to transport the items as well as some extra plates, napkins, forks, spoons, and knives. This way all the person has to do is throw the items out.
I love when I receive an item that has a fancy label on it. First, it would help you identify what is in the container, and it helps you see how much time and energy your friends put into the gift. You can make the labels yourself by hand, or if your handwriting is not so good use your printer, to run off fancy creative labels. Printing them really makes it easier to change the look of the labels. Remember it’s the little things that really stand out to people. If you have an artistic flair you may also be able to add a little touch of artwork to your labels as well. Or if you enjoy taking pictures how about adding a beautiful scenery to the labels.
Make several courses
I have also found it to be a good idea to make several courses to your meal gift. Start with a simple salad, or soup depending on the season, a main course, and of course dessert. Try to find out what types of dishes the recipient likes, and also try to keep it healthy. If the person is sick, you want to try and help them get well not make it worse.
Deliver while warm
If it is at all possible to deliver the food while it is still warm, than you should do so. I like to try to cook the person’s meal along with my meal for the night. Then I package it all up and take it on over. If you take it over during dinner time, than they will be able to just start eating.
