Waking up can be horrible; it seems you’ve only just fell asleep and now you have to get up and prepare for another day–but then you snooze your alarm a million times and eventually wake up cranky and depressed. Once again, waking up can be horrible. There are, however, some tips that can help you become a morning person.
1) Go to sleep earlier
This one is common sense, but people still don’t do it. If you really want to be a morning person, than it has to start with going to bed earlier. It’s no surprise to learn that those who go to bed late and wake up early will have problems. Get a good nights sleep and waking up early won’t be as much of a problem for you.
2) Have a consistent sleeping pattern
We all tend to make sure babies and children follow a sleeping pattern, but then completely dismiss it when we grow up. Yes, children may need more sleep than we do, but I think there is wisdom in being consistent with your sleeping times. It will be much harder for you in becoming a morning person if you are constantly getting different amounts of sleep each night–your body loves consistency!
When you exercise consistently, sleeping is much easier–along with everything else. Being active and healthy goes a long way to a healthier lifestyle, including with sleep!
4) Eat healthier, especially before bed
If you fill you body with sugary sweets before bed, I wouldn’t be surprised to find you grumpy and depressed in the morning. What we eat has an important role in our sleeping and waking!
5) Get out of bed immediately
As soon as your alarm wakes you up, be sure to get out of bed immediately. If you lay your head back down, it’s all over from there. There have been a handful of times where I made this mistake, and because I turned off my alarm when I got up, I fell back asleep for hours!
6) Take a shower or start doing something right away
Engage yourself in some type of activity right away; it can be showering, cooking, or something that is somewhat active. Whatever you make it, give your full attention to it so that you won’t be focusing on how tired you are and risk going back to sleep.
7) Be consistent in doing it
To be a morning person you have to be consistent. You can’t expect your body to get used to waking up earlier than usual after one week–it might take some time, but that means it will form a habit which could benefit you for years to come.
