I am the hesitant buyer who likes to get the most for my money, even when it comes to shopping at the local store where all of the products are only one dollar each. If I can buy a pack of three pool toys at the local Dollar Tree verses spending ten dollars for the same thing at another department store, you’ll bet I be making my purchasing at the Dollar Tree instead.
In the past I’ve had many people question my decision making with questions like “Is it really worth the gas to drive all the way there just to get those items?” and “You’re already at the other store, why not just get those items there?” With that being said my answer is, yes it is worth the gas to go there!
For example, while at Walmart I had picked up a vehicle charger for my phone that in after taxes cost me over six dollars. Later that day I had found the exact same charger for only one dollar at the Dollar Tree near my home. Needless to say, the other charger made it’s way back to the other store.
There are just some things I will not buy if it is only one dollar. Well, that was how I used to think. Hair dye was one of those products. Immediately I was in the judgmental mindset that if it were only one dollar, it had to be bad! No way would I take the chance with my own hair to try something that was only one dollar and I could end up purple or some other color other than a natural looking one in the end!
Until I took the leap and actually did it.
To be honest, I was amazed at the color. It looked even more natural than the other products I’d been purchasing for six dollars more at the major name brand stores. Needless to say, I’m not only saving more than five dollars on hair dye now, but my color looks a lot more natural as well.
Recently I was inspired to being telling others what they too could be saving money on by shopping at the stores where all items are one dollar each rather than thinking they have to spend more at major department stores.
Such as outdoor decorative lights. For one dollar at many ‘dollar stores’ you can get a strand of outdoor lights for a patio or solar lights for a pathway. Compared to the the three to ten dollars you will spend many other places just for the decor, this will save you a bundle!
Other items I now purchase are USB cords for my electronics, socks for my children (they grow out of them so fast) and other beauty products such as teeth whitening. The teeth whitening product alone saves me at least ten dollars a month.
When it comes down to reality, I save myself hundreds by buying the cheaper brands at the stores where everything is only a dollar. I learned that it’s okay to take the leap with the cheaper brands and just say no to paying more.
