I’ve always dyed and cut my own hair. One time I decided to dye my hair blonde. It didn’t turn out how I wanted it to and I was left with a bright orange color. Here’s how I fixed my hair when I accidentally dyed it orange.
Why I decided to go blonde.
I wanted to go blonde because it was the one color that I had never tried before. From middle school through high school, I had literally tried every color of the rainbow. Both my sisters had blonde hair, but I somehow ended up with reddish brown hair.
My first and second attempt at going blonde.
After selecting the box of hair color that I wanted to use, I dyed my hair right away. It didn’t turn out at all. It made my hair a light brown color, but I wanted blonde. After my first attempt, I noticed it wasn’t an even color as well. The roots and top part of my hair were almost a blonde color, but the main bulk of my hair was just the light brown color. I purchased another box of blonde hair color and tried to achieve blonde again. After I dyed it, took a shower, and dried it I was left with an awful color. My roots and top part were a bleach blonde and the bulk of my hair was orange!
Fixing the hair disaster.
I didn’t have much money to work with and I was afraid that my hair would fall out because I was dying it so much. This led to me not wanting to do anything to fix it. I resorted to wearing hats and scarves around my hair for awhile. Luckily it was Winter when this all happened so the hats and scarves were not standing out too much. About a month later, my natural roots were starting to stand out, so I had three different hair colors that gave off a skunked look. Believe me, I was not wanting this look at all. I had looked up on the internet on why I couldn’t achieve a nice blonde color for my hair, and the conclusion seemed to be that it was because my natural color of reddish brown didn’t mix well with boxed hair color.
To fix my hair disaster I had to dye it a dark color. I went with a dark brown and luckily the color took. My hair was back to “normal” looking but I was sad that I couldn’t go lighter with my hair. I’ve always had darker shades of hair color and had longed to be a light blonde. The only way that I could achieve a light blonde was if I went to the salon and I couldn’t afford that.
Tips and advice.
The best advice I can give when it comes to dying your hair is to dye it a shade that isn’t too far from your natural color. Ever since this fiasco I’ve only been dying my hair red. I do enjoy the red but every now and then I wonder what it would be like being a blonde. If you ever end up with an orange color after dying your hair you can easily fix it by dying it a dark color. Dark brown worked for me and I was left with no traces of orange. If you want to change your color that’s extremely different than your natural color only do it when you have the money to go to a salon and get it professionally done. Doing it at home can have bad results and you might even end up spending a lot just trying to fix it if it does get bad results.
