The Spotted Horse Ranch in the Hocking Hills is not just a beautiful place to ride a horse, but a rustic picturesque local to tie the knot. Horseback weddings in the Hocking Hills are popular nearly year around and the options to personal your nuptials abound at this southern Ohio attraction.
Hocking Hills is the second most popular outdoor tourism location in the Midwest, the Lake Erie region near Cedar Point takes first place honors. The Spotted Horse Ranch is located in Laurelville, Ohio – just a few miles away from Ash Cave and Old Man’s Cave at the Hocking Hills State Park.
The Spotted Horse Ranch is more than just another rental riding stable, it is a true working ranch. As you drive across an old (yet sturdy) wooden bridge to get to the ranch proper, a host of livestock quickly comes into view – even a small herd of water buffalo.
Mike Solt, the owner operator of the Hocking Hills ranch, is always on hand to guide couples in their planning. The party hall is a rustic cabin complete with both attractive western décor and all the modern amenities necessary to host a flawless wedding reception. The full kitchen allows the bride and groom to have their food prepared by friends and loved ones on-site or to aid caterers during their preparation. The Spotted Horse Ranch party hall can comfortable seat about 50 people, with additional guest seating and socializing areas available outside. The porch boasts comfortable rustic seating and multiple picnic tables are positioned around an outdoor grill and fire ring large enough to roast pig or goat.
The fire ring can be decorated with flowers and other themed décor or used as a desert area for roasting marshmallows. The Spotted Horse Ranch routinely works with a variety of Hocking Hills caterers, photographers, and musicians and can share contact information and recommendations with the bride and groom.
Horseback wedding at the Hocking Hills ranch can be intimate or massive. Although only a few tables and chairs from inside the party hall can be moved outdoors, the bridal party is welcome to bring their own to accommodate a large gathering – or supply hay bales for wedding guest seating.
If trailing your own horses to the Hocking Hills riding stable is not an option, or you need more mounts and saddles for the wedding party, they can be rented at The Spotted Horse Ranch. Mike Solt uses only Appaloosa horses at the ranch and raises his own from colts. Appaloosa horses, according to a host of historians, were raised by Native American tribes for their speed, endurance, calmness, intelligence, and bravery.
The Spotted Horse ranch, and their lengthy trails, cater to all levels or riders. If the maid of honor has not been in the saddle since riding a pony at the zoo when she was 10, Solt will tack up the perfect mount to keep her both safe and happy.
Camping spots and a bunkhouse are also available to rent at The Spotted Horse Ranch in the Hocking Hills. Covered stalls are available for your horses and all campsites have electric, a hitching post, and water for the horses. Showers and bathrooms are within a short walking distance from the campground. If spending the weekend at the Hocking Hills campground, trail rides can be organized for both small and large parties. Advance reservations are recommended for party hall bookings, trail rides, and camping spots.
