When the mind needs therapy there are several to choose from to help mend it. There is talking to a therapist, visiting a massage therapist to help you relax, meditation therapy to help you understand your desires and even therapies such as hypnosis. While those types of therapies do work for healing the mind, I prefer art therapy. The form of art therapy I enjoy is painting. It helps quiet my mind so I am focusing only on creating a masterpiece full of beautiful colors. I find it is the best way to release all kinds of emotions in a positive productive way that causes no harm to you or anyone else. It is purely healing to the mind and even the soul.
Benefits of Art Therapy
When I am sad or angry, this is the time I paint the best and the most. I believe the reason why is because I have tons of energy flowing through my mind that has nowhere to go. To help direct the negative energy into something productive and healing I paint using the colors that speak to me. Doing this helps turn my negative feelings into something positive and beautiful instead.
To help bring my mood to a more happier place I do try to paint peaceful cheerful things such as flowers, landscapes, animals, sunsets, rainbows or things, people or places that make feel happy. If you decide you want to heal your mind through art make sure you choose the colors that make you feel good inside and design what makes you the happiest in order to get the healing benefits from this form of therapy.
You will also want to make sure you set aside plenty of time to heal through art. All good masterpieces take time to create. You want plenty of time because you want to have the ability to let the negative energy flow through you so you get plenty of good ideas to help you design the most creative piece of art possible. If you feel rushed while creating any kind of piece of art, it only makes you feel more frustrated and angry and you end up with a piece of artwork you hate. Art therapy is about healing the mind through releasing the negative energies that are flowing through you.
If you decide art is your way to healing, you will need some materials. If your form of healing through art is painting, you will need paintbrushes, paint pellet, canvases and paints. If drawing is something you want to take up, you will need drawing supplies such as sketching paper, charcoal, pencils and erasers. Whatever it is you are thinking about doing, make sure you have all the right art supplies on hand to help you create the muse you desire. You never want to start a creative project without all the supplies you need. Starting a healing project and finding out you do not have the right materials right in the middle of creating it is the worst thing that can happen because again it can make you feel upset and angry. A project focus on healing is supposed to bring peace and happiness.
Find the Right Atmosphere
Once you have all your art supplies and you know what kind of art therapy you wish to begin, find the right atmosphere to work in. For me, my perfect atmosphere is a room filled with bright warm sunlight with cello, violin, piano or guitar music playing and a lovely vanilla candle burning and releasing a happy cheerful warming sweet scent into the air. Your happy atmosphere would be whatever makes you feel good and creative inside. Once you find it, begin your therapy so you can begin healing your mind.
During your healing period, strictly focus on your artwork and nothing else. Focus on releasing all those negative emotions inside into whatever it is you are creating. After you are done, admire your lovely work and how calm and collective you feel inside. It is also important to see the beauty in the piece you created because remember after all bad storms in life rainbows do appear.
