As Cinco de Mayo 2014 dawns, one of the hottest Internet topics is Adam Levine’s hair. The Maroon 5 front man posted a photo of himself and fiancée Behati Prinsloo . The picture was posted to Levine’s Twitter account on May 3.
While there are always serious and thought provoking stories in the news, Levine’s hair was number 8 of the top trending topics for Sunday, May 4.
The selfie shows that Levine has gone from his traditional dark locks to platinum blond and included the caption, “Apocalypse prep course complete.” Responding to a mixed reaction from fans, Levine later added another comment: “I hope people understand that when they say my hair looks creepy I take that as the highest compliment.”
Whether the dramatic hair color change was just for fun or was done for an upcoming music video, photo shoot, or another creative project is unclear. What is clear, however, is that Levine doesn’t mind if people don’t care for his new look.
Making a drastic hair color change is not for the faint of heart. This is coming from someone that has had pretty much every color out there. I’ve had my fair share of hair horrors and unintentional shades. I’ve had every variety of brown, red, blonde, and black. I longed to try adventurous shades of pink, purple, and blue, but never had the guts.
It’s interesting to note that each time I had a certain hair color, I noticed some people treated me differently. Most importantly, I felt my personality changed a bit. After all, though hair color is such public statement, often changing it is strictly for owner of those tresses. I felt whimsical as a blonde. I felt grounded as a brunette and imaginative with black hair. I feel most comfortable as a redhead, as it’s closest to my natural shade. I find that people don’t often know how to treat someone with red hair, and that’s wise. We gingers are wild cards.
Each time I changed my hair to a completely different color family, I heard from people that liked it and many comments from those that liked my hair the way it was before the change. Funny, these same people never said they liked the old color when I had it. I always thought it was strange when people would act as if changing hair color requires permission from the general public.
So, if the Sexiest Man Alive wants to go with a lighter hair hue to reflect the spring sunshine, good for him. And double kudos for doing so without apology.
