When building a team in Marvel: Avengers Alliance, you often want to include heroes that can apply specific status effects. There are two different status effects that can prevent resurrection: despair and brutal strike. While the former is slightly superior to the latter, they both prevent an enemy from resurrecting when reduced to 0 health. This is particularly useful against certain bosses and in many PvP battles. The following guide to the best resurrection prevention heroes in Marvel: Avengers Alliance will help you choose the character that will best help your team.
Thane – Thane is a master at preventing resurrection in multiple different ways. First, he can put despair on a single enemy with Black Hand as a quick action every other round. Additionally, if you need to prevent an enemy from resurrecting that isn’t currently afflicted by despair, he can attack all enemies with Life and Death. This power has the brutal strike property. Unless you are playing very badly, no enemy should ever revive while Thane is on your team.
Horseman of Death – A very similar alternative to Thane is Horseman of Death. He can only apply despair every three rounds, but the attack he does it with, Ninth Circle, is stealthy, guaranteed to hit, and has true strike. Thus, you can always hit the target you want with it and never have to worry about it missing. Additionally, his level 1 power Snowball’s Chance has the brutal strike property and deals incredibly high damage. The main advantages of Horseman of Death over Thane are that Death is much better at dealing damage and he has the option of being a bruiser or a blaster.
Ares – Ares has only one attack that can prevent resurrection, but it is generally very effective. Modern Warfare hits all enemies and applies the despair debuff. This attack can be used every other round, which means Ares can keep this effect on all enemies indefinitely. The attack can potentially be protected against by enemies that protect against area attacks, so there is a chance it may not be as effective as it should be.
Gamora – Gamora is similar to Ares with her resurrection prevention potential. She can use Demoralizing Shout every other round to place despair on all enemies. The main disadvantage of using Gamora is that Demoralizing Shout is a little more likely to miss than Modern Warfare and it doesn’t deal any damage, instead inflicting cower in addition to despair. But, since it is a debuff instead of an attack, it can’t be protected against. The two abilities are roughly balanced, which means you should use whichever hero is best for a given battle rather than worrying about the exact benefits of these two abilities.
Elektra – Elektra only has one power that can prevent resurrection and it does not apply despair. Her Assassinate power has the brutal strike special ability. She is far from the only hero with this ability, but Assassinate has some advantages that other similar abilities don’t. First, it is always stealthy, so you can always target the hero you want. Second, it also has the fatal blow feature, which means that Elektra not only prevents the enemy from returning but automatically slays the enemy if the enemy is below 30% health.
