When building a team in Marvel: Avengers Alliance, you often want to include heroes that can apply specific status effects. The psychic attack status effect is nearly identical to stealthy, but with two notable differences. First, it can’t be prevented with the hobbled status effect. Second, psychic attacks don’t work against mechanical enemies. Though, there is a variant call psychic energy attack which does work against mechanical enemies. Generally, this is a type of attack you want to use to avoid protection or retaliation effects against non-mechanical enemies. The following guide to the best psychic heroes in Marvel: Avengers Alliance will help you choose the character that will best help your team.
Emma Frost – Emma Frost has two psychic attacks, both of which can be used every single round. Psychic Tap deals low damage to a single target, but places the very nasty mental anguish effect on an enemy, which massively damages that enemy if the enemy attacks in the next round. Against most AI controlled enemies, it effectively deals half a bar of health damage to an enemy every other round. Emma also has Mental Trauma, which is an area psychic attack. The two options mean she is both excellent against single enemies and against groups when dealing psychic damage.
Phoenix – Phoenix only has one attack that falls into this category, but that is enough, since Psi-Blast is a psychic energy attack. Effectively, she is always stealthy, even against enemies that can apply hobbled or otherwise ignore stealthy attacks and she never has to worry about enemies being immune to her damage type. This is the best of both worlds and made even better by the fact that Psi-Blast is a level 1 attack power.
Cable – Like Emma Frost, Cable has two psychic attacks. Unlike Emma Frost, both of his attacks are single target attacks. Force of Will is a quick action with a two round cooldown that applies mind control in addition to damage. Psionic Spikes deals almost triple the damage of Force of Will, can be used every round, and applies off-balance, cornered, and winded. Both attacks are comparably good on those stats alone. But, what makes these attacks amazing, and consequently makes Cable amazing at making psychic attacks, is the fact that they both restore stamina, instead of costing stamina. Cable can potentially use this type of attack every single round, twice every other round, without ever having to worry about stamina.
Psylocke – Psylocke technically has two attacks that are psychic, but one of the two can’t be used willingly. Her passive ability Psychic Scanning has a chance to preemptively counter with a psychic attack whenever she is attacked. She can also directly attack with Psychic Knives, which is a psychic energy attack. This is already a solid combination of abilities made even more powerful due to her 1st level power Telekinetic Katana. This power places weak mind on an enemy. It increases the damage from both her psychic attacks and makes her Psychic Knives automatically score a critical hit against an afflicted target.
Doctor Voodoo – While most of Doctor Voodoo’s attacks are magic attacks, he does have two attacks that are psychic. Daniel Drumm attacks all enemies and restores stamina to allies and can be used every two rounds. The other, Spirit Possession, only targets a single enemy, but can force that enemy to immediately attack an ally and effectively lose the next turn. Spirit Possession also makes Doctor Voodoo become phased. Unfortunately, this power can only be used every four rounds. Effectively, Doctor Voodoo can use a psychic attack for each of the first three rounds of battle, which is usually about how long most battles run.
