When building a team in Marvel: Avengers Alliance, you often want to include heroes that can apply specific status effects. Reducing enemy damage is often accomplished by reducing the attack of an enemy or increasing the defense of your heroes. Some enemies can ignore defense, though, and both of these methods are inefficient when that is the case. Some status effects directly decrease the damage your heroes take or reduce the damage that enemies deal. The following guide to the best damage reducing heroes in Marvel: Avengers Alliance will help you choose the character that will best help your team.
Fandral – Fandral only rises to the top when equipped with the Loquacious Empowered ISO-8. With this ISO, whenever an enemy attacks him or any other Warrior Three, he preemptively applies migraine to that enemy. That is a massive decrease in damage every time an enemy attacks. Furthermore, his Elixir of Recovery power grants disengage to all allies, which massively reduces damage taken from follow-up and counterattacks. He also can indirectly decrease the damage allies take by occasionally inflicting weakened on enemies and granting fortified to allies. If your entire team is comprised of Warrior Three members, he is the best hero in the game at reducing enemy damage.
Hercules – Hercules combines reducing the damage that enemies deal with reducing the damage he takes to become nearly immortal. His two attacks, Pankration Pummel and Rock of Ages, respectively reduce the damage dealt by enemy melee or ranged attacks by 40%. Furthermore, Hercules takes reduced damage from all attacks for each positive paragon status effect he has and he has the ability to apply all four to himself. Finally, after using Gift of Battle, he counterattacks melee and ranged attacks with the attack that specifically reduce damage from those damage types. Not only can he reduce enemy damage, but he does so intelligently. He is best when at least one foe attacks with ranged attacks and another with melee attacks, but is very good at reducing enemy damage no matter what.
Deadpool – Deadpool has a single claim to fame. He can potentially gain the best buff in the game for reducing enemy damage: super heroic. He needs to randomly gain the level 16 ranger buff first, which rarely happens. But when it does, if he attacks with Happy to See You, he gains a buff that reduces damage by such a high amount that no attack in the game can defeat him while he is above critical damage and few attacks can even defeat him then.
Emma Frost – Like Deadpool, the damage reduction of Emma Frost is personal only. Her Diamond Body passive ability randomly reduces almost all damage from a single attack. It is completely random and can only activate once per round, though, unless she is equipped with the Eternal Empowered ISO-8. When equipped with that ISO, it can potentially activate an unlimited number of times per round. You are at the mercy of the random number generator, but it is possible for Emma Frost to be nearly impossible to defeat.
Phoenix Five Colossus – Colossus normally has the ability to grant himself reduced damage. His Steel Curtain power greatly reduces the damage he takes, which is good since it also intercepts attacks made against his allies. Furthermore, while in this alternate costume, at the start of each allies turn, that ally has a chance to gain the guardian force buff. This buff decreases all damage dealt to that ally by 50% for a turn. Like Emma, you are subject to the whims of the random number generator, but the benefits can apply to the entire team, not just one hero.
