The heroic battles in chapter 3 of season 2 of Marvel: Avengers Alliance are much harder than the heroic battles of previous seasons. One or two can be almost trivialized by purchasing the right alternate costumes, but most of them require a lot of luck and high level characters. In order to defeat these battles, you may be forced to reset the mission to get better results from the random number generator. Still, there are optimal strategies and the following guide will help you win these battles more often than not.
Mr. Fantastic – Do not even attempt this battle unless Mr. Fantastic is at least level 9. Even then, it takes almost as much luck as skill. If you want to increase your chances, slot nothing but Skillful ISOs. The extra health, attack, and evasion are all critical to this fight. If you use the regular costume, always attack Dr. Doom first. Then attack the Doombot if Bifurcator is available. If not, attack Dr. Doom a second time. There are only two attacks worth using against Dr. Doom, Multistrike and Tumble. Only use the second if you have managed to put the weak point debuff on Dr. Doom. The damage from Tumble is only high enough to be worthwhile when you score a critical hit. The Future Foundation infiltrator costume is simply not as good a choice. Countering is less sure than double striking and it will stop working when the Doombot dies. If you have difficulty with this fight, your best bets are either to level up Mr. Fantastic or to finish the level and try again on another run when the random number generator has new values.
Ms. Marvel – Despite the seemingly huge disadvantage of Ms. Marvel in this battle, this is actually one of the easier heroic battles overall and probably the easiest heroic battle of chapter 3. Admittedly, it is ridiculously easy if you have the bruiser alternate costume, but even as a blaster this is an easy fight, as long as Ms. Marvel is at least level 9. Use Kree Strike in the first round to get two attacks in the second round. Then use Absorb energy and attack once with both Brawl and Photon Blast. Moonstone will heal you with her next two attacks and your attacks will deal massive damage. Once you have that edge, the rest of the fight is cake. If you are worried, feel free to ISO up some health and attack bonus, but the fight is actually quite easy.
Hawkeye – This is a brutally hard battle, especially if you don’t have an alternate costume for Hawkeye. Even if you do have an alternate costume, the Infiltrator alternate basically doesn’t help. Only the Heroic Age alternates, either the blaster or tactician version, actually improve your chances of winning. No matter what costume you are using, make sure you are max level and fully slotted with ISOs before going into the fight. Evasion boosts are especially important because you will be outnumbered in the fight and if you are affected by burning or stun, you are basically assured to lose. If you are a tactician, focus fire on one of the burners while occasionally attacking Bowman with Trick Arrow. If you are a blaster, take out Bowman first. A lot of this fight will rely on luck. You need Rapid Fire to activate in order to deal damage quickly and that is purely up to the random number generator. If you can’t seem to win, try resetting the mission and hope the random number generator is more generous next time.
Phoenix – This fight will probably make the Hawkeye fight look easy. First, don’t even bother trying it if you aren’t at least level 9. Second, make sure your evasion is very high. From that point, you need to hope that luck is on your side. If you have an alternate costume other than the Phoenix Five tactician costume, use it. The advantage is minor for any alternate costume, but they are still better than the base costume. The key to this fight is not getting hit with Skia Thanatos. Since there is no way to predict when Selene will use it, the best way to do that is to have a really high evasion and hope. If you are lucky, Selene will try to use this attack while the Hellfire Heavy is on your side, but the chance of this happening is low. Besides relying on luck, you need to get the Hellfire Heavy to stop attacking. The simplest way to do this is to attack him with Psi Blast. In the following round use Mind Link, targeting him. He will actually defend you for a round. In rounds when you aren’t attacking him, alternate using Psi Blast and Telekinesis on Selene. Both will minimize her damage in different ways. If you do die and are revived, only use Phoenix Fire if you are in the White Crown costume or if the damage is high enough to defeat Selene. Otherwise the damage is only slightly higher than Psi Blast and doesn’t have the advantage of weakening Selene. This is a very tough fight and you basically lose the moment Skia Thantos hits. On the off chance that it hits and you survive the ongoing damage from it, you can remove it with Phoenix Fire or Mind Link if either one is available, but this is pretty unlikely.
Black Panther, Black Widow, Wasp – This is another battle where tool tips, high levels, and good ISO selection pays off. Like most long battles, evasion is critical in this battle, as is high health and high stamina. Read the tool tip and follow the instructions. Wasp will deal extra damage to the Ultrons after Black Panther has cracked them open with a Vibranium attack. Black Widow’s best use is to assure that your team scores critical hits and to keep weakness on the enemies. You can make this fight a little easier if you have the tactician version of Grey Suit Black Widow, but other than that you just need to focus fire, keep the enemies weakened, and have Wasp use Skirmish Scramble as much as possible. Also, if at all possible, try to recharge everyone’s stamina before the second wave.
Black Cat and Spider-Man – If you want this to be a cake walk, use Black Cat’s scrapper outfit and Spider-Man’s bruiser outfit. If you don’t have those rather expensive alts, this becomes a much harder fight. You will need both characters to be at least level 9 and preferably closer to level 12. Improve their evasion, health, stamina, and attack, because this is a long fight and the enemies have a lot of health. If you are lucky, Spider-Man will intercept a few attacks which will increase his damage. You need to focus fire on one of the two enemies in the first wave and then recharge just before the second wave starts. In the second wave attack the tactician to gain counterattacks and hope to survive scrappers opening salvo. Then focus fire on him. Try to stun him with Web Swing. If you are lucky, you will defeat him quickly and then easily mop up the other bad guy. Since this requires a lot of luck, you are much better off spending an additional 45 command points on the scrapper uniform for Black Cat, which pretty much assures you a win.
