The Fantastic Four are one of the classic hero teams from the silver age of comic books. In the Facebook game Marvel: Avengers Alliance, each member of the team wears the classic blue uniform. Each member of the team also has an alternate costume that rewards you for including two members of the Fantastic Four on your team. Only the Avengers costumes have similar synergy in the game and that synergy isn’t quite as powerful. The following guide to Fantastic Four alternate costumes in Marvel: Avengers Alliance teaches you everything you need to know about how to best take advantage of this teamwork.
Special Ability: Future Countdown – Every single alternate costume for the Fantastic Four and the Future Foundation costume for Spider-Man has the Future Countdown special ability. This ability only functions if at least one other hero in the team is wearing a Future Foundation costume. If so, all team members gain a sizable boost to accuracy and attack starting on round 4 of the battle. Most battles won’t last long enough for this to matter, but this ability is useful in multi-stage boss battles.
Special Ability: Share the Future – Every Fantastic Four member except for Human Torch has this special ability. This ability shares the character specific unique special ability of the Future Foundation costume with all other teammates. Since all teammates share the unique ability, you can take advantage of synergies between the abilities when using multiple Future Foundation heroes.
Future Foundation Invisible Woman – Blaster, 42CP / Infiltrator, 30CP
Special Ability: Reactive Shields – Whenever Invisible Woman is attacked, she has a chance of preemptively creating a shield to protect her from some of the damage from the attack. In conjunction with her base shields this makes her very difficult to defeat. When combined with either Future Foundation Spider-Man or Future Foundation Thing, she becomes almost invincible.
Future Foundation Mr. Fantastic – Tactician, 50CP / Infiltrator, 66CP
Special Ability: Flexible Thinking – This adds a chance for Mr. Fantastic to apply the distraction condition when he attacks. The distraction condition is moderately useful, but since the chance of this ability activating is random, the ability itself is mostly worthless. Of all the special abilities added by these alternate costumes, this is the worst.
Future Foundation Thing – Scrapper, 35CP / Bruiser, 28CP
Special Ability: Tough Guy – Each time Thing is attacked, his defense increases. This is valuable in PvE where Stonewall will generally force many enemies to attack Thing for constantly decreasing damage and is particularly good when combined with Invisible Woman or Spider-Man. Stealthy attacks and attacks that ignore defense are simply too common in PvP for this ability to be very useful.
Annihilus Human Torch – Blaster, 42CP / Bruiser, 56CP
Special Ability: Cosmic Control Rod – Whenever any member of this team is attacked or attacks, this ability grants a chance of a follow-up attack that hits the entire enemy team. On average, this will activate approximately once per round and deals modest damage. Comparatively, the ability is not that great an increase in power for Human Torch, but that is mostly because he is already the most effective character on this team. If Future Countdown has activated, the damage from this ability gets rather exceptional.
Overall – Future Countdown is incredibly weak in PvP, because few fights last long enough for it to actually activate. This ability shines in PvP, though, specifically in multi-wave boss battles where you are assured of multiple rounds. Of course, to be able to take advantage of this, one of the Fantastic Four or Spider-Man has to be the team-up for that battle and you have to own the appropriate costumes. Outside of boss battles, Invisible Woman and either Human Torch or Thing are best for maximizing score. Mr. Fantastic simply isn’t very good in general and his overpriced costumes don’t really improve him in any way.
