Black Widow is one of the most powerful heroes you get during the early levels of Marvel: Avengers Alliance. In fact, she continues to be an effective hero throughout the game. If you want to increase her utility even more, she has two different alternate costumes which can offer her a new class or new abilities. The following guide to Black Widow alternate costumes in Marvel: Avengers Alliance reveals all of the intriguing details of this super spy’s optional gear.
Grey Suit Black Widow – Tactician, 45CP / Infiltrator, 32CP
Special Ability (Infiltrator): Double Agent: Tactician – Whenever Black Widow attacks a target currently affected by her Marked for Revenge status effect, she gains an extra attack. She can only gain this benefit once per turn. This effectively lets her act like a tactician against her current revenge target. This ability is less effective than the special ability she has in her tactician outfit, but it costs less to get.
Special Ability (Tactician): Double Agent: Infiltrator – This special ability makes all of Black Widow’s attacks stealthy and causes her to counterattack whenever she is attacked. It is one of the most effective special abilities in the game and basically has no down sides.
Team-Ups – Neither special ability meaningfully changes the characters that she teams up with well. Both outfits give her more attacks in general, which slightly increases how often she will apply combo setup to enemies, so you might want to team her with an enemy that makes unarmed attacks. But, that is really the only part of this costume that has any effect on teammate choice.
Overall – The tactician version of this alternate costume is unquestionably one of the best alternate costumes available in the game. The 45 CP cost is a little steep, but since a new class is partially like getting a new hero, it is worth the cost. The infiltrator version is obviously an upgrade to the original hero, but has very little intrinsic value, because you have no control over who you get your bonus attacks against. You should really only buy it if you have command points to burn.
Avengers Black Widow – Infiltrator, 28CP / Tactician, 35CP
Special Ability: Avengers Assemble – This ability grants Coordinated Attack to the entire team or gives Coordinated Defense if the team already has Coordinated Attack. These abilities grant occasional extra attacks on attack and defense respectively. This primarily means that Black Widow will apply combo setup a little more often. This doesn’t help any Avenger other than Hulk, but Widow can easily enjoy extra damage from this benefit.
Team-Ups – Avengers Hulk is by far the best team up option for this character. This allows you to double down on the Avengers Assemble bonus, which grants Hulk more stacks of Hulk Up and puts combo setup on enemies, which both heroes can take advantage of. If you don’t have him, another Avengers hero is also a good choice. Beyond that, it doesn’t matter much, since Black Widow teams up rather well with most any hero in the game.
Overall – This is a mediocre costume at best, mostly due to the existence of the tactician version of Grey Suit Black Widow. If you want to upgrade her infiltrator outfit, this alternate costume is a little cheaper than the Grey Suit Black Widow costume and provides nearly as a good a benefit. In fact, it arguably provides a slightly better benefit in the heroic fight with Wasp and Black Panther against Ultron. While this is a rather corner case benefit, that fight drops some truly amazing E-ISOs so spending 28 CP to make it easier isn’t a terrible trade off.
