Augmented ISOs were a new type of hero ISO released in 2014 for Marvel: Avengers Alliance. Augmented ISOs attach to a specific power, augmenting the strength of that power. Character specific augmented ISOs only drop from boss battles in season 2. When chapter 5 was released for season 2, new ISOs became available for each boss battle and epic boss battle in the chapter. The following guide to character specific augmented ISOs in chapter 5 of season 2 of Marvel: Avengers Alliance will help you determine whether they are worth the time and energy to acquire.
Stabilizing A-ISO, Havok, Mission 1 (C) – The Stabilizing augmented ISO is a mixed blessing in many ways. It removes Kicks Like a Mule from Plasma Wave, but adds an additional round to the cooldown. Most battles end after Plasma Wave is used, making the benefit meaningless. On the other hand, the battles that don’t end with Plasma Wave, like PvP battles, do not tend to last long enough for a second Plasma Wave to be used anyway, so the drawback is also somewhat meaningless. If the boss battle were easy, this would definitely be worth it, but due to the frustratingly difficult battle, this is not an ISO you want to spend a lot of effort acquiring.
Advantageous A-ISO, Ares, Mission 2 (A+) – The ability to apply disadvantage as a quick action is absolutely amazing and this added flexibility makes it more likely for you to use Personal War on a different target than the one you attack with Art of War, leaving Weak Point available for another ally to take advantage of. Adding to the value of this ISO, the boss battle with Taskmaster is actually surprisingly easy.
Nutty A-ISO, Squirrel Girl, Mission 3 (B+) – The benefit from this A-ISO is minor, but simultaneously very useful. It removes Aww Nuts from More Nuts! The removal of the random failure chance makes Squirrel Girl a lot easier to use effectively. Unfortunately, due to the method this character was released, she isn’t owned by a significant portion of the player base, highly reducing the value of this ISO. The battle with the Hood is remarkably easy, so if you do own Squirrel Girl, this is one augmented ISO definitely worth trying to farm at least a few times.
Controlling A-ISO, Emma Frost, Mission 4 (A) – Pretty much the only downside to Controlling augmented ISO is the fact that Emma Frost is unreasonably expensive in terms of command points. The boss battle to get it is average difficulty and the benefit is top notch. By adding mind control to Psychic Tap, this ISO makes Psychic Tap useful every round instead of every other round, except against enemies without any allies. This power still is more control than damage, but it is absolutely brilliant control.
Shocking A-ISO, Thor, Mission 5 (B-) – On its own, the Shocking A-ISO is not that spectacular. It adds static charge to Empowering Strike and makes it an electrical attack. But, in combination with one or both of the Dynamic E-ISO or the Mighty Thor alternate uniform, this augmented ISO is great. Having to either farm an ISO or spend command points makes it only modest at best. Luckily, the battle to acquire it is quite easy if you do have one of the those two already.
Raging A-ISO, Sif, Mission 5 Epic (A+) – Raging A-ISO may seem similar to the terrible Berserking E-ISO, but it is actually a great deal better. When Inspiring Courage is used, every member of the team gains the Berserker status effect. This is the same status effect that makes Sabretooth such a good character, but it is being applied to the entire team at the same time as the fortified status effect. This benefit arguably moves Sif to the top end of second tier heroes or maybe the bottom of first tier heroes. The only drawback is, like all epic battles, you need to spend a lot of energy to get to this battle. Conveniently, the battle is easy once it becomes available to fight.
Gifted A-ISO, Hercules, Mission 6 (A+) – It is quite amazing how many augmented ISOs in this chapter are top of the line. The Gifted A-ISO changes Gift of Battle to a quick action, allowing Hercules to protect and attack in the same turn, while applying two buffs at the same time. This is the benefit that Hercules has wanted since he was released. It is good enough to possibly bring him back to the top of the heap for PvP battles. If you use Hercules at all, this is practically a must-own ISO and thankfully the boss battle with Militant and Hammer is actually quite easy.
Boxing A-ISO, She-Hulk, Mission 6 Epic (C) – If She-Hulk weren’t one of the worst heroes in the game, this would be much more valuable. By adding Hulk Up to Punch, this ISO gives her a much needed damage boost, but still does nothing to make her anything more than a basic brawler. Because this epic boss is easier to get to than the one in mission 5, you might actually farm this a little, but it certainly isn’t as valuable to own as Raging augmented ISO.
