Augmented ISOs were a new type of hero ISO released in 2014 for Marvel: Avengers Alliance. Unlike empowered ISOs, which attach to a character and provide a general benefit, A-ISOs attach to a specific power and improve that power. You can buy general A-ISOs in the store or get character specific augmented ISOs by completing boss battles and epic boss battles in season 2. Like all items gained from boss battles, these drop randomly, so you will often have to complete a battle many times before getting this reward. Due to the high energy cost involved, you will want to carefully consider whether a specific ISO is worth the effort. The following guide to character specific augmented ISOs in chapter 4 of season 2 of Marvel: Avengers Alliance will help you make that decision.
Victorious A-ISO, Union Jack, Chapter 1 (B+) – This ISO is quite excellent, allowing Union Jack to use V for Victory as a quick action, though it also gains a two round cooldown. As nice as this benefit is, the battle with Taskmaster is frustrating and you will probably resort to defeating the mini-boss separately to make it less annoying. This means that you will have to spend a lot of energy to get an augmented ISO for a character that is only average.
Endothermic A-ISO, Red Hulk, Chapter 2 (F) – Red Hulk already gains heat fast enough as it is. In fact, he usually gains it too quickly. Adding 30% heat generation to Gamma Bomb actually makes the ability worse. Combined with a fight that isn’t particularly fun, this is not worth any effort to acquire.
Valhallan A-ISO, Valkyrie, Chapter 3 (A+) – The biggest flaw of Sacrificial Blessing is that it requires an action. Valhallan removes that flaw as well as the flaw that it might miss allies. With this equipped, it is nearly impossible for your heroes to die in any battles where enemies can’t strip buffs from your allies. The battle to acquire this is also rather easy, making it truly worth the energy investment.
Worthy A-ISO, Thor, Chapter 3 Epic (B-) – Worthy makes Inspire Bravery grant two stacks of Might of Mjolnir, greatly improving your ability to make alpha strikes with Thor. This benefit does make the Modern Armor Thor pretty worthless, but that doesn’t make it bad. Unfortunately, the epic battle against Destroyer is mind-numbingly long. You almost can’t lose it, but there is almost no way to win it quickly. You will be bored and that makes this a lot less valuable.
Penitent A-ISO, Angel, Chapter 4 (B+) – Penitent is a modestly good A-ISO. It adds finest hour to Absolution, giving Angel some much needed additional damage. The battle to acquire it is a little difficult, but not terribly so. The only real downside is that this is pretty much the only good item that drops from this boss battle.
Virulent A-ISO, Archangel, Chapter 4 (C+) – The Virulent augmented ISO makes the Pestilence power of Archangel target all enemies instead of one enemy. This is an incredible boost in power that still leaves Archangel as a below average hero. Still, it is purely better in all ways, so if you do use this hero for any reason, it is worth trying to acquire, if only barely.
Tempestuous A-ISO, Thundra, Chapter 5 (A-) – This ISO causes Thundra to preemptively attack with Rolling Thunder when she attacks with Cyclone Smash. The main benefit of this is that it allows her to actually use Cyclone Smash, which otherwise generally gets unused because it doesn’t synergize with her other powers. It is a solid ability, though Savin is a brutal enough opponent that you may want to think twice about trying to get it, especially since Thundra is only an average hero, at best.
Reflexive A-ISO, Black Panther, Chapter 6 (A) – Reflexive is an absolutely amazing character specific augmented ISO. It turns Vibranium Daggers into a quick action, allowing Black Panther to remove buffs from one enemy each turn. Additionally, in combo with Rage of the Panther, he can potentially make up to six attacks in a round. You will have to suffer through a very slow battle to acquire this, but unless you never use Panther, it is worth the effort, especially if you want the Arachnid A-ISO.
Arachnid A-ISO, Spider-Man, Chapter 6 Epic (B) – The Arachnid A-ISO grants Deadly Crits to Web Slingshot, greatly increasing its damage in almost all circumstances, since it automatically scores a critical hit against webbed targets. This is a solid, if not spectacular benefit. Against any other boss, this would be a must-have item. But Venom is such a terrible fight, you might want to pass on this, especially since the Man-Ape fight before him is also incredibly long. Only go for this if you have a lot of patience or use Spider-Man regularly.
