Marvel Studios newest film is about to make its way into theaters with a cast of unusual characters. Guardians of the Galaxy may prove to be a sleeper hit for the studio. One of intriguing characters that fills the eclectic cast is The Collector.
Marvel fans got their first glimpse of the Collector in the closing credits of Thor: The Dark World. Volstagg and Sif take the Aether to the Collector for safe keeping. The Collector is one of the Elders of the Universe and uses his age as an advantage in knowledge.
Powers and Abilities
Longevity
The Collector has a form of immortality that comes from an alien longevity. He does not age as the rest of the universe and his body metabolizes at an incredibly slow rate. The Collector’s cells do not age and do not change. He will live seemingly forever.
Invulnerability
The Collector has a form of invulnerability that keeps him from being affected by toxins, poisons, and diseases. He can withstand a moderate amount of physical attacks without being seriously injured. The Collector may be similar to an Asgardian in the level of his invulnerability.
Advanced Technology
The Collector has no super human powers but instead collects a wide variety of items that will help make him more powerful. He has access to an array of alien technology that provides starships, equipment and weapons. The Collector uses a variety of energy and particle weapons to attack others. He uses the massive number of items in his collection instead of developing superhuman abilities.
Intellect
The Collector has access to massive amounts of knowledge from his limitless age and alien knowledge. He uses this knowledge to advance his ability to increase and expand his collection. The vast knowledge of the Collector makes him an incredible strategist and an incredible foe. His intellect allows him to use various situations and people to his greatest advantage.
The Collector plays a role of being able to obtain anything he desires and it seems that he is collecting the Infinity Stones. These stones are the most powerful relics in the Marvel Universe and he already has at least one. The Collector will be in the Guardians movie and will likely be after another one of the Infinity Stones. Is he collecting them for himself or for Thanos? The details of his role in the Guardians of the Galaxy are still somewhat vague but it is clear that he will play a significant role in the movie.
