The Guardians of the Galaxy is Marvel Studios new space themed super hero adventure that ties another piece into the Marvel universe. The film will introduce a host of new characters, new locations and new races into the overall picture of the Marvel story line. Guardians will provide another piece to the expanding puzzle of the alien invasion in the Avengers. One of the new groups presented in the film is the Nova Corps.
Nova Corps
The Nova Squad or the Nova Corps act as a protective force for the galaxy. These protectors form a type of intergalactic police force that defends the galaxy against enemy aggression and pursues justice. The bulk of the force is based on the planet Xandar. The Guardians of the Galaxy trailer states that the Guardians were all arrested on Xandar and the statement was made by a member of the Nova Corps.
Nova Helmet
Nova Corps wear a standard uniform that includes the star encrusted helmet. The helmet gives each of the Nova Corps a variety of assistance. The helmet can become self-sealing and allow the Nova Corp to breathe in any environment. The helmet also contains a computerized targeting system that allows the Corps to have extremely accurate firing capability. There is also a long range communication device implanted in each of the helmets to allow the ability for all of the Corp to communicate with one another.
Nova Force
All of the members of the Nova Corps have the ability to tap into the Nova Force. The Nova Force is an energy source located on Xandar and it is from this power that the Corps gain their abilities. The entire corps share one source together but as the members of the Corps decrease each gains additional power. The Guardians of the Galaxy trailer shows the members of the Nova Corps with the chest plate embossed with three glowing circles to represent the Nova Force.
Members
Rhoman Dey
Dey is a commander in the Nova Corps and is seen in several of the trailer segments. Dey is portrayed by John C. Reilly. The majority of the speaking parts from the Nova Corps in all of the trailers come from Dey.
Irani Rael
Rael is Nova Prime, the commander in chief of the Nova Corps. Nova Prime is the leader of the Corps and often the most powerful of the Nova. Rael is portrayed by Glen Close and is shown giving the command to send in the Guardians against an oncoming threat.
Richard Rider
Rider may or may not be in the film. There was some speculation that Nathan Fillion would portray Rider in a cameo for the movie. Richard Rider is the Nova Corp member assigned to protect earth.
