I am no stranger to buying Mother’s Day gifts at the last minute. It is not that I forget until the last minute; I just do not have enough money to get her anything until a few days before Mother’s Day. This is your mother you’re talking about, so you can’t give her some gift card on the way to Sunday brunch like it’s your best friend’s birthday. However, here a few of the gifts I have successfully bought in the past at the last minute, and just how well my mom received them.
- Jewelry Box – This is a lifesaver if you are not only shopping at the last minute, but also short on money. Jewelry boxes vary in price from very expensive to affordable. It often depends on the material they are crafted with. The good news is, you can find one in any city or town, with great ease. I have given my mother a $5 jewelry box before, but because it was something I personally picked for her and spent a deal of time choosing it, she absolutely loved it.
- Flowers – Yes, I know this sounds a bit cliché, and there is a possibility it make not go over as well. The key here is to get flowers that you know mean something to your mom. For example, I got my mother roses that looked like the ones that grew at my childhood home. You can buy them through an online flower shop or you’re local grocery store will have a floral department. You might even be lucky enough to find the perfect flower growing in the wild for free.
- eBook reader/book- An ebook reader, such as a Kindle, is a great last minute gift for mom. There are ebook readers at all different price ranges and you can be sure you find something that mom will like. These are so common you can find a good one at Walmart on the way to meet mom! If you cannot afford an ebook reader, you can always get her a book (or an ebook) that has meaning to you or her. This is one of my favorite things to give my mom when I’m low on cash around mother’s day. Not only is it something personal, but I can write a little message inside so she will always remember you when she opens the book to read it. Even a used book from a garage sale can be special in the right circumstances.
- Soaps and lotions – There isn’t a single woman in the world that won’t enjoy this gift. Stores like Bath and Body Works, offer a unique supply of scented locations and soaps. They currently offer specials right now just in time for Mother’s Day. The great thing about this kind of gift is that it is foolproof. If you choose a smell you like, chances are so will your mom. My mom absolutely the raspberry scented lotion I gave her one year. This may be the only time a gift card may not look so bad.
Excuse me, I need to go buy my mom a present before she ruins the surprise by reading this article!
