It is a common traditional belief that brighter, bolder shades of lipstick, like bright red, should be saved for hitting the clubs at night or special occasions. After all, it’s only proper to be more subdued during the day, isn’t it?
I disagree. I am a big fan of wearing my bright, bold and beautiful red lipstick every day, special occasion or not. I love the way it looks and I love the way it makes me feel. I am going to tell you how I do mine so that it lasts a long time and still look good. I also love makeup that doesn’t take forever to put on so once you get it down, this should only take around five to ten minutes to apply.
I use Wet n Wild and Hard Candy makeup brands and Lipsmaker’s lip balm for my routine but you can substitute any brand you want. Start off by making sure your lips are moisturized and free of dry skin. I learned the hard way that trying to wear lipstick with dry chapped lips just doesn’t work. It highlights the chapped parts and makes it look like your lips are molting. Not attractive at all.
One coat of lip balm later, it’s time to start with the color. Coat your lips completely with red lip liner, keeping within the natural lines of your lips. I know that wearing bold red during the day might be coloring outside the lines but it’s best to keep your lip liner within the lines.
This step is to help stop your lipstick from feathering out around your lips and gives the color an even base to start from. Your natural lip color can change how the lipstick shows and this makes the color look as close to true as possible. I use Wet n Wild lip liner in Berry Red but you can use whatever color you like best. Give that a few seconds to set and then apply a coat of Hard Candy All Glossed Up Hydrating Lip Stain in Red Minx. It goes on so smoothly and lasts for hours.
After that dries for a few seconds, apply a coat of Hard Candy Plexi Gloss Glossy Lip Shine in Vixen. This gives it a smooth texture and what you will reapply during the day, though you won’t have to do it often. Blot it so it doesn’t get everywhere, including your teeth, everything you eat or drink and quite possibly your significant other’s face.
Finish it off with a coat of Hard Candy Plumping Serum or any clear gloss you have. This may seem a bit excessive but I have found that it keeps my hair from getting stuck in my lipstick so I always finish off with it.
You can do this easily every morning and look amazing all day long with minimal time and effort. If you try this look, tell us about it in the comments section below. I would love to hear how it worked for you and what changes you may have made.
