A dive bar is a place where “everybody knows your name,” and if you’re seeking a good drink and good company in Mobile, Alabama, you have a few choices. You can sip a well-made White Russian without offensive flickering, fluorescent lighting. Order a smooth rum and cola without fielding a dance floor of “YMCA” enthusiasts. Longtime residents of the Azalea City, such as myself, like visiting one of these top four establishments. Head to one of Mobile’s friendliest dive bars!

Callaghan’s Irish Social Club
Once a year, on St. Patty’s Day, Callaghan’s gets a lot of attention. The other 364 days of the year, this dive bar is the place to go for an always perfect drink or brew. It’s a bit out of the way at 916 Charleston Street but it’s so worth the drive. Some nights you’ll hear the croonings of a pub favorite, other nights it’s a folk band. You just never know who you’ll see at Callaghan’s but one thing is for sure, they’ll always have a smile on their face. Call 251-433-9374 for more information. The club’s hours can change if there’s a parade scheduled so do call if you are traveling in from surrounding cities.
