Spray tan is difficult to apply at home, the tanning bed may be dangerous to your skin and going out to the salon to get a good color is a real hassle. Learn the art of using tanning lotion at home to get perfect color easily and affordably.
The hardest thing to fake tan is your face. Getting color here without traditional tanning is difficult. Many women use bronzer to give their skin a sun kissed glow. Bronzer does work well, but you can also use tanning lotion to give your face the color you want.
Applying tanning lotion to the face is difficult. First, make sure you’re using an oil-free lotion before applying it to facial skin. Oil can clog pores and clog blemishes. If you notice this happening to your face, switch to a different tanning lotion.
Apply a small circle of lotion to your palm, about the size of a quarter. Lightly rub hands together to spread the lotion over both hands, and apply them to your face. Swipe hands over skin from the middle out. Cover all areas of your face, but avoid getting the lotion inside your eyes or mouth. Sweep hands around the hairline only once, and avoid this area while smoothing the lotion over the rest of your face. Color tends to collect here, so you need to tread lightly.
Rub tanning lotion over the remainder of your body, anywhere you want color. Often, this will mean fully covering your legs and arms. You don’t need to do anything special to apply the lotion. Simply rub it onto skin with your hands the same way you would apply any other moisturizer. Give your skin a smooth, even coating, and rub it into skin well before moving to another area of the body.
Don’t forget to cover your neck, shoulders and ears while applying your tanning lotion. You should also rub lotion into the tops of your feet and the backs of your hands. The back area is hard to reach with lotion. Try to cover as much of your back as you can, and get help if possible to get color on this area.
You don’t want to apply tanning lotion every day. If you do, you’ll notice color building up in some areas. This makes your tan look uneven. Skip lotion application every two baths or showers. If you shower or bathe daily, this means you’ll skip the tanning lotion every two days. For example, apply lotion Sunday and Monday, don’t apply Tuesday.
After you use your hands to rub tanning lotion all over your body, you must rub the insides of your hands against a damp towel. Try to do this before the lotion on your hands dries. Otherwise, you’ll get color here and that will look unnatural. If you wash your hands with soap and water, you will wash the color away from the backs of your hands before it sets in and this will also look unnatural. Rub your hands on the towel instead, quite thoroughly. Allow your skin to dry for at least 10 minutes before you put on any clothes or come into contact with fabric.
If you’re careful about how you apply tanning lotion , you’ll get great color without ever visiting a salon.
