Much is said in Proverbs about lazy people. Humor and strange sayings can get our attention, and if you pluck some things out of the Bible that makes people laugh perhaps there will be more hunger to for them to read the Bible. Pass these verses along to someone who needs help with laziness and maybe it will do them some good. All these verses are taken from The Living Bible Paraphrased.
A Lion Might Kill Me
Proverbs 22:13 says “The lazy man is full of excuses.” This verse goes on to say: “I can’t go to work!” he says. “If I go outside I might meet a lion in the street and be killed.” This verse might become a trigger to help a lazy teenager to be more useful, or an employee to get out and make sales.
Silly thoughts can create positive change. A boring Bible verse will cause eyes to roll and no action taken for improvement. Try this one and see if God’s Word might be used for something really good to create a better life.
Proverbs 10:5 says “A wise youth makes hay while the sun shines, but what a shame to see a lad who sleeps away his hour of opportunity.” The term “makes hay” might have been used by a grandfather back in the old farm days. However, once again this verse can be an attention getter.
Other translations of this verse say that you must do the harvest when it is ready and not wait too late. If you want to get away from farm terms, this verse could relate to turning in a report when it is due and not waiting too late.
Smoke In Their Eyes
Proverbs 10:26 says “A lazy fellow is a pain to his employers–like smoke in their eyes or vinegar that sets the teeth on edge.” This verse is really strange and once again is an attention getter. Try putting a bottle of vinegar near a lazy employee’s desk with this verse attached. God’s word combined with visuals could be carefully used in some situations.
Lazy Men Are Soon Poor
Proverbs 10:4 is a very straightforward verse that says “Lazy men are soon poor: hard workers get rich.” I cannot imagine this verse offending anyone, and these words might be displayed as motivation. In today’s politically correct world, the fact that this is a Bible verse may not be able to be revealed in a public place without legal problems. Sometimes just living by what the Bible says can have great results instead of bragging about where the advice came from.
