Orlando, Florida is best known as a tourist destination because of the many theme parks and fun activities, and the 4the of July is no exception to the fun we have to offer. In fact, there are at least eighteen Independence Day celebrations happening in or near the Orlando area in 2014. A few of the most popular celebrations for the fourth near Orlando are Red Hot & Boom in Altamonte Springs, downtown “Fireworks at the Fountain” at beautiful Lake Eola, the 22nd annual Watermelon 5k run in Winter Park, or theme park celebrations that culminate with a spectacular fireworks displays.
Red Hot & Boom
Each year Red Hot & Boom rocks Central Florida starting on July 3rd and ending on July 4th. That’s right, it is so awesome that it takes two days to enjoy the celebrations. There is live music and entertainment from top bands, food vendors of every kind, and lots of fun activities for the family. A top 40 radio station, 106.7 FM, sponsors the event and provides plenty of music for all to enjoy in between performances. Of course, the two day event would not be complete without a stunning fireworks display at 9:30 PM to end the night.
Fireworks at the Fountain
For the families that just want to spend a relaxing and memorable time watching the fireworks displays in a park then there are many options for you. One of the best displays in Orlando can be found downtown at Lake Eola Park at the fountain. Enjoy the relaxing atmosphere as you watch one of the largest displays in Central Florida. The show starts at 9:10 PM.
Watermelon 5k Race
If you are an early riser and enjoy getting your exercise then the annual Watermelon 5k race may be for you. This 3.12 mile run event begins 7:00 AM on July 4th at Mead Garden, however, it is advisable to arrive early in order to obtain a bib. This is because there is a watermelon eating contest following the race at 8:00 AM. There are 100 – 400 yard races for children who register to participate that morning and the first 150 will be given a T-shirt. After the contests you can stay for all the other activities of the day.
Orlando Theme Parks
Disney is one of the most popular destinations in Orlando to celebrate the 4th of July. If you are able to make your way through the immense crowds, then the major theme parks – Disney, Epcot, Magic Kingdom, and Animal Kingdom – are hot destinations to be. There will be live bands playing music, patriotic 4th of July parades, firework displays, and various other happenings that are included in admission. Hollywood Studios in Disney starts there fireworks display at 10:15 PM, the Magic Kingdom begins theirs at 9:00 PM, and Epcot’s originates at 10:00 PM.
