I bet most people have gone to a beauty salon at least once in their lives. The end result is that we are either satisfied with the job the hairdresser did or we are not. Many times that makes the difference between whether we go back to that hairdresser or we don’t.
I have heard many horror stories and some from my friends all over the web. People have gotten horrible cuts; hair cut unevenly, or the hairdresser left bald spots that were not there before.
But I have never heard my story before.
Once my friends and I decided on the spur of the moment that we wanted our hair done. In each case we really did need it done. So we walked down the main street to the local hairdresser in hopes that we could get in or have an early appointment not too far in the future for a hair cut. We looked in the window and it looked like the salon was closed down so we were about ready to go back home when the hairdresser came to the door.
We asked her when she would be open and she said it was open now. We were shocked. Nobody was in the salon and no lights were on.
When we get into the salon the woman was really nice. She talked on and on about how she can’t pay her rent and her electricity was temporarily turned off. She was getting it put back on the following Monday. That should have been our first clue.
Instead we asked her if she could still do our hair with no electricity and she said it would not be a problem. We should have realized something was wrong right there and then. But we gave her the benefit of the doubt.
She did our hair and she washed it first. The water was freezing. The salon was cold and I got a chill.
I have to tell you that was the strangest salon experience that I ever had. I don’t think many people can top that horror tale.
Incidentally the salon did close not long after.
