Cherries with long stems
1 oz shot glasses
Non-stick cooking spray
Jello shots are so popular because they are colorful, can be made in different ways, and they fit in with nearly any celebration. But one of the most attractive, delicious, and unique Jello shots is a firecracker shot. It can be made with liquor – or not – and will get you on an exciting track to celebrating the Fourth of July.
A Jello shot is best served in a clear glass so that the colors and designs can be seen. For the firecracker shots you’ll be using 1 oz, clear glass or plastic shot glasses. Spray a small amount of non-stick cooking spray into each glass and lightly wipe it with a paper towel. Set the glasses aside for now.
Bring 2/3 cup of water to a boil and stir it into a packet of Berry Blue Jello until dissolved. Do the same to a packet of cherry Jello. Cool. Sprinkle an envelope of unflavored gelatin over a quarter-cup of milk and let it stand for 5 minutes. Bring ¾ cup of milk to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in 3 tablespoons of sugar and a half-teaspoon of vanilla. Stir into the plain gelatin until dissolved; cool for 10 minutes.
In a 1 oz shot glass, spoon in 2 teaspoons of Berry Blue Jello. The recipe will make 20 firecracker shots so fill that many shot glasses. Place in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. The mixture should be set up but not firm. Over the blue gelatin, spoon in the unflavored Jello, and place in the fridge for 10 minutes. Place a cherry – with a long stem – on top of the unflavored gelatin. Refrigerate for a couple more minutes. Spoon the cherry Jello over the unflavored gelatin and refrigerate for at least 10 minutes.
To create a special version for adults only, boil a half-cup of water for each of the red and blue gelatin, and stir until dissolved. Add a quarter-cup of vodka to each flavor and then continue with the rest of the recipe.
Spike just the cherries by putting some vodka in a glass jar. Put the cherries (without the juice) into it. Screw on a lid and let the cherries soak for at least a couple of hours. Use them, as stated, in a firecracker shot for adults only. Your guests – kids, adults, or all – will want at least a couple of the Fourth of July firecracker shots so make plenty!
