When you travel, it’s smart to bring along tech gadgets to make your trip easier. Here are four must-have tech gadgets no one should travel without.
GPS stands for Global Positioning System. Most people have GPS on their phones, but there are a couple of good reasons why to have a stand-alone GPS device. One reason is a GPS device usually relies on satellite technology or can be pre-loaded with your route. Depending on where you are traveling, you may experience no reception on your cellphone and, thus, not be able to use the GPS part. If you have a stand-alone GPS device, you don’t have to worry about that. Also, using your phone as a GPS can eat up the battery whereas GPS devices usually contain a long-lasting battery.
Again, many people use their phones for an all-in-one, but there are good reasons to have a stand-alone device instead of just using your phone. A very good reason for having just a camera instead of using your phone involves developing pictures. Not all phones are friendly when it comes to photo developing. Cameras, on the other hand, are easy and simple. Most out today use memory cards that can be taken out easily and put into photo machines at any store that develops photos. Another great thing about cameras is that they are specifically made to take pictures, meaning you’re going to get the best quality, and it should be as easy at point and shooting. You don’t have to fiddle around with apps or selecting the right size etc. Cameras are ready to go.
3. Outlet converter.
This is for people traveling to a different country than they reside in. Not every country has the same power outlets. This can be bad if your phone dies and you literally have no way to charge it. Outlet converters let you plug in your device into one end and then the other end will fit directly into the outlet. These range in prices depending on how many different style of prongs it has and conversions. You can find these cheap on Ebay, and it’s smart to pick one up before your trip. You may be able to find one in the country you are visiting but will most likely pay more for it than you would have if you bought it before your trip.
Even though 1. and 2. were pushing that stand-alone devices are the best, you should still consider taking a smartphone. These types of phones are great because you can get apps for many different things that could be useful for your trip. Most likely the hotel you are staying out will have it’s own app which you should consider getting. You should also check into getting an app that does language translations if you are visiting a foreign country. If you are visiting a foreign country make sure you check with your wireless provider before you leave to see if there are any roaming charges or extra costs for using your phone out of your home country.
